This is super old school, but there was a study on type 1 diabetics who used to inject WAY more frequently than any GLP1 karens or tiktok peptide bro's

They would typically use the same needle for 6 injections on average

To clarify: 6 times piercing the insulin vial and 6 times being injected, the same pin

They reported no discomfort or infections; just did it for convenience (nothing to do with price or saving a buck)

Further: no offense to all of Meso but the line between harm reduction and bubble boy syndrome is becoming blurry at times

Those T1Ds would reuse the same pin multiple times and stick the damn thing straight through their shirt, literally

No alcohol swab, probably a dirty shirt, and who the fuck knows what else

Also: no infections, no discomfort, and they've been doing it for decades

I understand the counter-argument: "maybe they didn't lose an ass cheek the next day, but what about 20 years later when they have sore joints or forgot where they put their keys? That could've been due to non-aseptic injection technique; inflammatory particles building up over time"

OK. Whatever. I'm not injecting with the same pin 6 times through clothing but I'm not living my life like a bubble boy.

and anyway, I don't think there's any legitimacy to that counter-argument otherwise every retired bodybuilder would be functionally retarded

Night and day from those easy touch
How do these compare to the BD ultrafine II, if you’ve tried them? I’ll definitely pick up a box of these to compare. I’m always looking for a better pin.

Ultra fine are comparable. That place I order from though the shipping for me is insane. My stuff always lands in like 24 hours. They don’t do a PO Box though.

Have you personally tried though lol? Twice doesn't feel great

Interesting. What would the protocol be for using insulin syringes then if the needle is already destroyed from piercing the vial once?
The practice with insulin needles from a multi vial is pierced vial and with the same needle you pierce the skin. Many hospitals have moved away from multi use insulin vials and switched over to the pens with the one time use needles. When your pierce SQ though it’s very easy to pierce skin even if you punctured the vial first because the needle is very fine and short. IM on the other hand the first pierce into the vial already dulls the needle head making the second piece into to your skin which can make injection not as smooth penetration and also increased tissue trauma. . We use blunt tip needles to pierce vials and the unscrew the blunt tip and replace with injection needle of choice.

Yeah my friends on the transplant list and has been diabetic most of her life. She rocks the dexcom and has a long cartridge thing that she loads into a stainless looking syringe holder. Im almost 100% positive she pops on a needle for the whole day (havent seen her tossing the little catridge replacement needles) and just pins when her dexcom alerts her. I dont think ive ever seen anyone actually have insulin in vials irl, always in preloaded cartridges. I havent seen her change the needle once though. But like Matty_G pointed out above, they are only going into the skin. Not tearing through muscle fibers

I've hit the same insulin syringe upwards of 20 times (500mcg doses of a 10mg vial of MT2) countless times over the years. Never an issue. Yea, by the end I'm essentially puncturing skin with a blunt needle, but I'm dealing with worn out leather anyway. What I don't do is reuse anything dealing with IM. Those are one-and-done. Subcutaneous, though? No problem. Never a single problem aside from compound-specific irritation like from MOTS-C. Don't even site prep with alcohol pads for subcutaneous. IM gets the full treatment, though.

To each their own. For me the choice is pretty easy, especially when the difference is literally pocket change. Not reusing needles is quantifiably more sterile and less painful.

It seems like it is more than a little different doing a shallow subq injection using a tiny insulin needle which barely pierces the skin to inject a water-based compound that quickly disperses, vs deeply inject an oil which might absorb very slowly in a depot for days, creating a breeding ground for bacteria.

Dont be frugal with your lab supplies.. I know we use a lot, but if you do the math your risking thousands of dollars of ER visit, forced down time and a ton of suffering over reusing a $0.15 insulin syringe. Even pinning daily, its a whole whopping dollar per week. It HAS to be a mental/convinience issue because it cant obviously be an economic issue.

If its convinience/old habits then do yourself a big service and place a decent order for lab supplies one time and stay ontop of your reordering and itll never be a problem again. Needles are about $0.06/piece, daily pin for a week $.042, $1.68/month or a whole $20/year.

One ER trip alone could cover a lifetime of lab supplies for multiple people. It just doesnt make sense. An extra $20 on one lab supply order to have an extra case of syringes and needles on hand that will give you a large window of time to restock is a no-brainer.

I dont think anyone can convince me its not a frugal mentality thing lol
