OKAY.
Three months into lifting for first time in 25 years.
Been doing an aggressive PPL with ONE day off (sometimes).

Getting gains - but exhausted. Minor cardio (300 cals). Eating slightly above maintenance. Drugs are virtually zero.

Started telmisartan three days ago and sleeping like a baby.

This is the first week where the last three days were: 1. day off 2. Legs 3.day off
and I feel fucking awesome and not GUILTY!

Someone please tell me this is an aberration.

I never liked PPL. I can't imagine doing legs after a pull day with deadlifts. It might be fine for bodybuilding but a poor choice for strength or powerlifting
I think the days off are benefiting you more than the drug. I could be wrong.

My workout is day 1) back
Day2) chest.
Day 3) off
Day 4) legs
Day 5) shoulders and arms.
6) off.
Granted I'm older but I've made more gains especially strength and I feel better.

I amalgamated my leg day into the push and pull days. That way deadlifts get trained with both hams and back.

Push with quads
Pull with hams

So I do it as a push/pull split 4x per week with core, calf and extra glute work on Wed. It seems to work well at not beating me up as much as PPL does. I just started adding the short Wednesday workout recently and it’s working well.

Gotta recover to be able to grow muscle tissue and strength. If you go into your next workout without having fully recovered, you're hampering your progress. I think a PPL, when done excessively heavy, needs much more than 1 day off per week. Min 3 days off per week for most people (sure newbs and crazy genetics can use less off days, but obviously, by your own admission, you're not recovering fully)

Yeah I like that. When I was younger recovery was much easier. I find now for me two days rest between back and legs makes recovery better.

Now that's a more sensible structure as a workout plan like PPL is not as easy when older than when you were younger.

I just turned 62...I do back and biceps on Tuesday, legs on Thursday, and chest shoulders and triceps on Saturday,...
