New coach prep plan concerns!

Whats up meso! I haven't posted much on here and its definitely been awhile. I mostly read and try to learn as much as I can and know there is a lot of really knowledgable people here so I'm reaching out. I hired a new coach for my prep for the NPC Universe nationals and he has made a wild adjustment to my meal plan and I really need some advices. My calories went from 5158 to 2439 Carbs went from 733g to 222g a day, protein from 347 to 256, fats from 109 to 53. That's what I ended my last prep on. That seems insane to me. I am 202 lbs and my last prep I started 10 weeks out weighing 193 and ended at 180. I did need to be a couple lbs leaner because I got food poisoning 3 weeks out I lost 2 weeks of progress. I have to start my prep this Sunday and I'll be 12 weeks out. When I questioned him about this he said because I need to come in leaner and if we need to add food back we can. But wont my metabolic rate adapt and at that point adding food back be fruitless where weight loss is concerned? I'd appreciate some help as I need to decide whether to go with this or move on to a different more gradual plan. I don't understand why we wouldn't make small adjustments as needed instead of taking 60% of my food away on week one. Thanks for any help. Sorry if I left something out. Edit some of my weight gain has been fat but a lot is lean mass. I am currently about 12% body fat. I'm also enhanced fyi.

This does seem drastic to me but I know nothing about you. What’s cardio starting at?

Mind saying who the coach is?

If you’re in prep and that’s the change you’ve gotta either get out or double down for the ride and crush the plan.

No halfassing. This is why choosing a coach should be 1. Not just a prep thing 2. Based on a relationship

Thx for the reply. Cardio is starting at 25mins 6x a week. He is not a big name coach and I really don't wanna name him cause I don't want it to seem I'm bad mouthing him cause I'm certainly not. Unfortunately I don't know a lot about him only that he was recommended to me by former coach's wife. My former coach us unable to coach right now. His approach was the exact opposite. He took away very little food in the beginning and added 20mins of cardio and I lost fat. From that point it was small changes each week. I figured that this new coach took my weight and did the whole times your weight by 12 thing. I lose fat fairly quickly which is why this seems so drastic to me. I told this guy that and he said I just want to see how you respond and that we could always add food back. I've never heard of doing that and continuing to lose body fat. From what I know of metabolic adaptation it just doesnt work that way.

Adding food back isn’t a no-go. My coach is doing it now. But it wasn’t after a 2000cal cut. That seems extreme.

What’s your height and current bw? You said bf% was 12?

“See how you respond” is usually a note for refeeds, macro balance changes, or some macro timing change. Not really an appropriate thing to say to justify a 2000cal cut. No shit you’re guna lose weight. You cut 50% of cals and added 120mins of cardio...

This is a bit moot now, but one thing I like to ask a coach when finding one is to have them make you understand the general plan. Doesn’t need to be specific. Just the general move towards the show. Including food choices, preferred progression (cals va cardio), drug choices and doses, etc.

It sounds like this coach moved your diet into his own style of coaching vs adapting his coaching to your current state. There isn’t anything inherently wrong with that per say, but you should be comfortable with the process. If you’re not; doomed from the beginning.

Find another coach.

Or, If you have notes from last years prep, use those as a guideline. You’ll be better off prepping yourself and going the solo route than using this clown...

I will say this, taking out a large portion of food first is generally (not always) a giant mistake that sets you up for a poor result in prep.
Yeah that's exactly my line of thinking as well. It's easy to take away more, the reverse not so much.

Wow ok.

In my opinion of course, 53g of fat is way too low. And I’d never prep anyone that tall or heavy on just 250g protein. Go type your shit into a macro calc and see how close it comes to the totals he sent you.
I typed it into a couple different calculators and the macros are real close the fats are a little higher in the calculators but the carbs and protein are close. That was on the aggressive weight loss setting. It seems he did the whole multiple lbs by 12 for cals and protein was 1.1 per lb

Mac, did I tell you how when I did that practice prep with my previous coach, we started at my only fats being 1tbsp pb and any fats in trimmed boneless skinless chicken breasts? Oh yeah, I was 250lbs too lol
Insane. Body needs way more than that for anything but a few grindy weeks at the end of prep.

Dude I felt like shit. If I remember correctly I started with meal 1 having 50g carbs, then 4 more meals having 25g each, eventually that ended up also being carb cycled, the chicken all being replaced with white fish, started right off with double cardio sessions daily etc. I got shredded extremely fast but God was I miserable. Also 1g Arimidex daily had my estrogen at 5...so that helped me feel even better

I just wanted to thank everyone for your help and advices! I really appreciate it. I hired a new coach and had a great phone call with him this morning. He is asking all the right questions and has put my mind at ease about this prep. He has an excellent track record and came highly recommended by one of the top coaches in the industry. Now it's time to kill this prep. Thanks again meso!
