Modern rap has almost no tangible link to any of the Great forms of music you mentioned. And therefore, it would be negligent and insulting to claim a common heratige. Rap as it exists, is a completely different animal that you too should want to see destroyed; as it advocates the destruction of the black community. One only need to sit at a stoplight with the windows down in any city in America to confirm this assertion. I refute any claim of common heratige based on content alone. Back to the slavery though... treat 'em good or treat 'em bad, they were still sold as property. And there inlies the rub. As an ethicist, there is little to no difference because, the intention and the end remain the same. Blacks have a long standing history as treating each other as means to ends and not as ends in themselves. This, I think, is the root of the troubles for the African-American community.
