Milk thistle: All at once or divided doses

A question for those that dose 17aa orals: do you take your milk thistle all at once, or in divided doses?

I am currently taking 1,000 mg/day, which in and of itself may not be enough (please let me know if you are of that opinion). This amount is divided in five equal doses throughout the day. I had always assumed, really without thinking about it, that since milk thistle was--in my mind, anyway--akin to a multivitamin, it would make sense to keep a constant level available to the liver for cleaning and restorative purposes.

After reading a bit more on how the liver works, though, I think I might have been wrong. Specifically, I was reading a clinical trial in which it was determined that it was best to take the medicine in question in one single dose, as opposed to divided doses throughout the day. The reason was that because the medicine was taken by mouth and therefore metabolized in the liver, the liver could metabolize and make use of more of the drug with one single, larger dose than it could with smaller doses throughout the day.

I am not entirely familiar with how milk thistle works and was wondering what the community here thought the best way was to take this important supplement.

Thanks.

I get them at wal-mart for $5 per 100 and they are 175mg milk thistle....so I take 5 when I get up and 5 around dinner time (basicly 12 hours apart).

I would be interested in more feedback on this as well.

hey bros ... just like most herbs and vitamins ... your body can only utilize so much at a time, however no one seems to know the answer on how much that exactly is ... i have 200 mg milk thistle per each gelcap ... so i take 2 around 8am, 2 late afternoon and 2 in the evening. hope this helps.

I've been thinking about this today, and I'd like to pose another question (or two):

What if one were to dose his milk thistle before the liver-toxic 17aa steroids? For example, let's say you took four milk thistle capsules with breakfast. Two or three hours later, you took your DBol with your morning meal-replacement shake. Would the overall health of the liver be improved by "bracing it," so to speak, for the impending influx of toxic chemicals?

Or, perhaps it makes more sense to dose the milk thistle immediately following the liver's metabolization of the toxic substance. (In other words, taking the three capsules two or three hours after the DBol.) This would, in theroy, speed the recovery of the liver.

Of course, I could be grossly oversimplifying how the liver works. It's a complex organ. I'm just curious so that I can better protect myself.

milk thistle stimulates the production of new liver cells to replace old/damaged liver cells and aids in the dotoxification of toxins that can cause liver damage .. so regardless when you take it, it has the same effects on the liver.
