im having a debate with a bro of mine. i have been going heavy lately. warm up set at about 50% of max 12 times. next set heavier 10-12 x. 3 rd set, heavier 8-10x, 4th set as much as i can do 8x same with 5th set. maybe 6 reps.

my bro says, lighten the weight and get 12-15 reps. warm up set and 3 sets at 60- 75% with a 4 count on the negative!

he says you want to put on size or get stronger. i say the heavier i can lift with at least 6-8 reps, the bigger ill get.

end the debate :p

I go with your argument.....your friend sounds just like what we did for football and power training in college.(a long time ago:D) 6 to 8 to failure or as heavy as possibe.

I think the way to train when trying to put on size is you gotta go heavy like you said...but it needs to be full motion with full isolation of the muscle or its use less. I see the same thing all the time and im sure you guys do too its these guys that throw on all this weight and do half reps..especially when they squat they throw 4 plates on but dont go even near parallel. You gotta train heavy to grow but you gotta have good form.

i agree with you going heavy is good , the only thing i would say is make the set at least 20-45 seconds for good results

I've given up on doing what other people say/recommend,I just do what feels is good to me.
I don't do difficult awkward lifts.Just the easy straight forward good old ones.and go heavy and hard at them.
I wouldn't be keen on doing a four count negative on a heavy dead lift.

gotta go with u on this one. try incorporating some drop sets every now and then ............
have to disagree with the above posts i do 3/4reps with chest all the way down and 3/4 up keeps the tension on the chest the pumps r incredible try em...............last but not least 2 words GET BIG..............................

you mean, GET BIGGER![:o)] i allways change my workouts! drop sets maybe only once every five weeks. and i pyramid etc. we were just having a basic work-out debate. hes a personal trainer and young so he thinks he knows it all.

i did a few sets his way and did get a great pump. this is just a general question!
