Jerky?

With the amount of meats I eat daily I have been thinking of things to do to help my stomach out some. I was thinking of making it into jerky (i.e my turkey, chicken, beef)

It would make it very easy to take anywhere as well.

What are your thoughts on this subject?

Im talking about from eating every 2 hours makes me feel completely boated and full to where I feel Im going to throw up. So Im trying to find ways to eat my 5000 calories without having to force feed myself. So I was thinking of putting all my meats, fruits, and veggies in the hydrater. Thats what I ment by helping my stomach out.

So you're saying it would help by reducing the volume of food in yer stomach? If that's yer goal then it should work fine. Though some fruits DO expand when re-hydrated so keep that in mind if you drink something while eating your dehydrated foods.

I too have the same problem at the moment. Had a long break (almost one year) and just got back in the gym a couple of months ago, trying to regain my strength by eating a lot, and I end up force feeding myself sometimes. The problem is that all food (even the food I usually enjoy) start tasting bad when you force feed yourself.

If this jerky trick works out for you Cory, let me know pls.

Weatherlite,

Thank you for informing me about the fruits expanding. I forgot to think of that point.

Oldtimer I will definately keep you posted on this. You are right, it makes hitting your calorie mark very hard when your fighting your gag reflexes.

Do you think any nutrients from the meat would be lost by doing this?

Cory

Nothin lost by doin that. The only thing lost is the water and the volume. Also though, at least with the fruits and maybe some veggies, it will concentrate the sugars so it will affect the GI and GL of them. Just take it into consideration....though I imagine on a bulker yer not too worried about that! [:o)]

I personally love jerky... Although It has A LOT of sodium....

Aside from the sodium issue, jerky, like essentially all cured products are high in nitrates and nitrites. Sodium nitrite for instance will break down into various carcinogenic compounds which you don't want to consume on a regular basis. The sodium nitrite preserves the meat and although it's great at doing just that, eating it everyday wouldn't be a good idea. Considering that we stay in shape in hopes of both looking good and being healthy, eating it would defeat that purpose. Hope that helps.

Cheers

OOOH!!! Totally forgot about that! Thanks Hemo. But, on the bright side, there are a lot of natural butcher shops around. We have one up here who makes nitrite and nitrate free jerky and bacon etc....only problem is that it does not last long so ye have to eat it quicker. No biggie if yer on a bulker! :) And as for salt, some places do sell low salt versions as well. Less tasty though.

Wow, I wasn't even aware that healthier jerky existed! LOL Thanks for the heads up. I've been avoiding bacon like mad specifically for the nitrates/trites but now have an excuse to start eating it again ;-) Thanks again
Cheers
