Jardiance question

Quick question for those that have used Jardiance. Got some coming from India, but in the meantime my doc gave me a script for 10mg "Expensive as shit even with insurance, but that is a whole other topic." Anyway it is being used primarily for kidney and heart health vs glucose issues.

Have some test strips that I use a few times a month for some time now just to make sure nothing is really odd. Did it a couple days after starting the Jardiance and as expected, the glucose marker lit up as expected and it never registered at all before. What surprised me though is the ketones marker lit up as well, which it never did before either. Anyone else have this happen? Everything else on the test strip was about the same as normal.

I’m now curious also. I started Jardiance a couple of weeks ago.

One thing I will say is our medical system is broken. In May I walked into a Costa Rica pharmacy while on vacation and purchased one month of 25mg Jardiance (not generic) for $35. Without insurance here it costs $500-600.

I know it is crazy. My doc granted gave me a 90 day supply which Amazon pharmacy was the best price. Without insurance, I was looking at about almost $1800. Insurance knocked it down to a little over $600 but still fuck!

I put it the Jardiance copay card, but the price stayed the same. I may have filled out the card too soon and it didn't have time to register in their system or they may just not with the particular insurance I have take it. I will know again once the script is up. In the meantime, I do have some Indian pharmacy coming over for the future. Best deal is to get the 25mg tabs and cut them which is 12.5 vs 10 but close enough.

Always need prescription here but a big pack is easily 200-230€ plus private doctor prescription on top 20-50€ and then shipping on top of that.

The medical system in the US for sure needs some work. However, it is such a juggernaut of money I don't see it changing.

I am from Germany and luckily my insurance covers all my BP meds, blood sugar stuff and lipids which is telmisartarn, nebi, ezemtib/bempoic mix, rosuvastin, metformin, jardiance, pioglitazone and so on.
Sometimes my doc gives me a big box cialis on top paid by insurance which is another 120€ saved
Plus 2 packs of Test E so 350mg Test E/Week as my trt

Its nearly 1.3k€ every 2-3 months

Would love to switch to Pitavastin but insurance doesnt cover it and a pack of 4mg at 30 pills is like 70€ alone

Damn, kind of is funny they cover all that but won't cover simple Pitavastatin. A generic version very recently appeared in the USA.

Yeah pretty funny, basically went to the doc with the bloodwork showing the worst lipids and they didnt bother asking. For the Nustendi (the ezemtib/bempoic acid) i had to literally beg though, that was awful, instead they all wanted to put me on 20-30mg of Rosu alone

I don't blame you. I personally wouldn't want to go more than about 10mg of Rosu. It was nice of them to give you the bempoic acid though.

What I found funny doing investigation is that people always scream they over-prescribe statins in the USA. However when I looked the general cardiology guidelines in most parts of the EU are even lower LDL levels than the US guidelines.

5mg max. Anything above it is not worth it the extra sides
Lol, you sound a lot like me brother. On 5mg right now and trying to switch over to 2mg pita. Rovu is one of those drugs where the higher you go, it seems the extra benefits drop pretty quick vs the much greater increase in possible sides. Hence the lower dose add on's, like zeita, BA, or Repa are a much better choice vs just upping the Rovu.

The moment my insurance would cover Pita, i will do the switch as well

Per ketones, your body cannot use the glucose as jardiance is blocking it. You are pissing away glucose The body needs to get energy from somewhere so it turns to Fat, a by-product of that shift in energy source is ketones

Partly correct, SLGT2's do not block glucose use in the body, they just lower the threshold of the kidneys to which they then pee out excess glucose and when the body requires more the tendency to turn over to fat is bigger hence the risk for diabetic ketoacidosis

What test strip is this? I have ketones and Uric Acid, but they are separate…

Trying to keep it simple.. lol. I could have brought the whole Pharm chembook and Drawn Krebs cycle, but I'm saving such posts for reddit

No worries, did not mean to offend or criticize you, blood sugar management is a bit of my niche and down my alley, really deep into the whole part together with mitochondrial health and piqued my attention right away as i see more people classifying SLGT2's as fatburners when they are not
