For the last few years, I have tracked my body measurements using a DEXA scan at BodySpec in San Francisco. Trying to control what I can, I use the same machine at the same facility at the same time of day for each measurement. This year, I wanted to compare this DEXA scan to another facility in San Francisco and see if they are the same. So two DEXA scans within an hour of each other. And then for fun, I stopped by an Anytime Fitness for their Evolt 360 scan. A few days later while traveling, the gym I went to had an Inbody scanner, so of course I tried it. Results were (no food or water between DEXA scans):
Nov 24, 2025 7:30am DEXA Scan - Total Mass: 215.4 lbs; Total Body Fat: 8.0%
Nov 24, 2025 8:30am DEXA Scan - Total Mass: 212.16 lbs; Total Body Fat: 10.3%
Nov 24, 2025 11:46am Evolt 360 Scan - Total Mass: 218.7lbs; Total Body Fat 7.0%
Nov 27, 2025 11:40am InBody 570 Scan - Total Mass: 214.5 lbs; Total Body Fat 3.0%
TLDR: Body scans are all over the place. Get them because they are fun, not because they are accurate.
