Thank you everyone for your advice. Its appreciated.

I will be going to a nephrologist tomorrow. To my understanding I should be able to tell him in confidence what I have been taking? They pulled up my records I did at Quest ( i thought they were not able to since I pulled them privately) and can see the past two tests with elevated egfr. Im sure they will have questions.

I just dont want to say anything that will get my insurnace cancelled. Please advise.

Don't tell them you're on Steroids. They're gonna automatically look down upon that and say that is the reason why your kidneys are fucked come on think about that, and it will go in your file, even though it's a nephrologist so it might screw your insurance. I don't think they're able to see your Quest results if you pulled them privately, but just because you have elevated numbers, you don't have to go and tell them something that's gonna make them look down on you and possibly shut you down , make them treat those elevated numbers

Here's my understanding. If you're in the US, no, do not tell them or they can code it as F55.3 (abuse of steroids) to your insurance company. That is unless you're self paying and you explicitly request that they keep it off the insurance record.

Unless you tell them, you should be safe. But then you run the risk of it getting coded as CKD or something which is arguably just as bad if not worse for insurance purposes.

Unless you tell them or they run a toxicology screen, they will have no way of definitely knowing in such a way that permits them to code it as such to your insurance company.

HIPAA does not protect you if you explicitly tell them what you're taking.

It's unfortunate but this is the reality. Admitting it can also get you removed from a transplant list if you ever need one. We are forced to live underground like rats so we need to make our caregivers play guessing games while we know damn well what is causing the issue.

"Just give me the meds doc, I'll do the rest."

They definitely can with Labcorp so it wouldn't surprise me if Quest is the same. I saw a new cardiologist last week, and he quoted me my latest lipid numbers that were only on labs that I ordered myself and didn't give to him.

Depending on how the labs are ordered, they have access to it. It's a LC and Quest thing.
