How much tuna is too much?

I've been eating a lot of tuna lately and have heard that it contains mercury and you shouldn't eat too much. I eat it pretty much everyday. Its so much easier now after I tried the "don't chew it, just swallow it w/water" techinque. I eat about a can a day. Someone was telling me about some kid who got mercury poisoning from eating it too much. Anyone have any idea how much you are supposed to eat?

I highly doubt that there's enough mercury in tuna to do any damage to your system. The kid that you heard about probably had some bad chemical reaction to mercury. If it was a problem, I'm sure they'd have warnings on labels and it probably wouldn't be FDA approved.

Grizzly eats like 15 cans of tuna a day the fast bastard! He's probably the right man to speak to about this.

I eat lots of tuna per day as well; it's cheap, and is packed with protein, that's all I need to know. My brokeass can't afford to eat 6 steaks or chicken breasts per day...lol

I eat about 8-10 cans per day; I have had no adverse effects from it. I also mix the tuna maels up. I might have tuna salad(tuna, lettuce, and fat free dressing), or tuna sandwiches on whole wheat, or I might just eat the tuna straight outta the can if I don't feel like preparing it special! ;)

If it wasn't for tuna and eggs, I would get no where near the recommened amount of daily protein...lol sad but true. :)

damn robbie 6-8 cans! the most i ever choke down is two, im sure i could eat more if i put it in a casserole or something but im too lazy. i just open up the can and grab a fork. its not like we really eat for taste anyways

Fat ass checking in...LOL

I'm in the same boat as Robbie. I've curbed my tuna intake in recent months, but I'm still up at 4 cans a day. I've averaged roughly 6 cans of tuna/day for the last 5 years and I'm not dead yet. That's not to say that something can't happen, but I'm pretty skeptical.
