While that is nice in theory... I would echo what
@gr8whitetrukker has already said. Home defense situations (and any self defense situations) are complex already for a hyper-adrenalized defender.
As many things must be as simple to use, aim, and fire as humanly possible. Simple things become really difficult under stress even when practiced and incredibly more so when not practiced.
Most additions to a weapon (including things that lengthen the weapon and change the balance like silencers) just serve as further complications (feel free to argue about lasers here).
Keep it simple. The results of the sound of discharge simply aren't worth fiddling with for home defense unless you are contemplating opening fire with 8-inch field artillery.
