Guns

What kind of optics are you guys running on your ARs? I been running an EOTech on my smith and have been happy with it, but bought a back up ar and can't justify that kinda money on optics for it.

If you're into good budget optics look into the primary arms micro dot. Primary arms has exceptional quality for the price. Vortex optics also makes some nice and affordable RDS.

The primary arms was actually one of the ones I was looking into, I think it was under 200 and haven't seen a single bad thing about it.

Wishlist items too? The FN SCAR 17S

That, and a solid scope please.

Should still come in cheaper than the wife's diamond ring... and more likely to appreciate over time. Wonder if she'll buy that logic, hmmm.

What's everyone's weapon of choice for carry? Reason I ask is b/c I'm looking for another carry, this time more of a pocket gun.

Anyone have experience with the Glock 42? Better than the MP Bodygaurd in my opinion which I've also considered. Alrwady have the MP Shield 9mm, but that Glock 42 is crazy light. 14 oz I believe. I know I know it's a .380, but if it hits someone in the face I'm pretty sure they will stop.

Springfield .45 XDS is what I carry and it fits in the pocket pretty well. lil bastard has a wicked kick to it and I'm pretty sure if you hit them anywhere they will stop lol

I'm more into revolvers for carry, looking at the now discontinued 340PD from S&W. Very light, right over 10oz, and available all the way to .357 Mag. Would like to get 3 of them, one for each car. A bit pricey though.

Go with the Glock 43.

I have had this argument many many times but I stand my ground. Guys talk about engagement range as 7yards but for a backup I'm thinkin 6 feet or less by the time you make a decision. .380 is a "better" round at arm's length than a 9 simply because the larger charge could easily penetrate two men at that engagement range. Less recoil, more accurate, especially in higher fire rates. More capacity due to the shorter rounds, if you are concerned with penetration alternate JHP and FMJ in your magazine.

You "stand your ground"? :-)

Definitely short range is most realistic, you'd have to have the protection of a badge to pull the trigger at much longer distances. Or you'll be killed in court. Also, there's the psychological angle of shooting a human, in normal civilian life you just don't do that at a distance. Which is why I like revolvers, no thinking involved, pull the trigger and it goes bam.

I'll always prefer a 9MM to a .380 but that's just personal preference. If I have to shoot someone I want to neutralize the threat as fast as possible. The thing about handguns is that they're notoriously bad at killing people. There have been people shot over and over again that still continue to be a threat. I've read stories of a guy being shot over 20 times and still managing to return fire. The 380 just doesn't carry much energy. If I'm going to carry a firearm that is extremely compact I want to do it with the most bang I can. I use 147gr Winchester PDX1 +P defender hollow points in 9MM. A very heavy and high pressure load for 9mm Luger. I would never trust my life to something smaller than 9mm and I hardly feel like a 9 is enough. If you can carry an A hammeless S&W in .357Mag that's probably your best option.

.357 is a great round, and practicing with .38 is a pleasure - so it gets done!

That's a beast to shoot .357 out of such a light gun. For most people they could never accurately get off a second shot. Then again, with .357, they might not need to. I think a SW Model 60 is as small as I would go for .357

What's wrong with Taurus [emoji4]
I love my Taurus 44mag. It's one bad boy.
