Food shortages

With the current state of the world and the unfortunate reality of food shortages coming within the next year. Is anyone making any type of preparations?

We are looking into turning part of our yard into a fruit and vegetable garden, and getting some chickens...

Just curious to any ideas you guys might be considering or already implementing...

Both good steps to take. Gardening is a lot of work. Learning to deal with the pests, ensure the right amount of water and nutrients. Overfertilizing can kill plants and sterilize soil. Overwateeing can cause mold and mildew and encourage pests, etc.

The Encyclopedia of Country Living is a super helpful book if you want to get into self sufficiency. Read it. Take notes. Bookmark pages. Have your significant other read it and also take notes and bookmark pages. It's the best.

Don't forget about water too. Get some long lasting water filters, purification tablets. Non perishable foods.

Stock up on seeds. Having seeds and being able to grow from seed is critical for survival.

Get some sort of silent hunting mechanism. Learn to trap or get a nive compound bow, or both.

My next thing is getting solar panels. I want to be able to cook and refrigerate my food when the grid is down and keep meat frozen :)
