Flip flops in the Gym!

Hey guys,
Wanted your honest opinion about this because I have had disagrements before with management of my gym.

I love working out in my flip flops and management wants to kick me out for not wearing closed shoes. I understand the risk of not wearing closed shoes and accept the risk.

Lay it on me. Am I wrong or are there any other things I am not thinking about?

Thank you!

Very weird rules, but its their gym and they decide in the end. I feel you though, i love working out in slides, i never wear shoes anymore.

I make the rules for my house and expect other places to have their own rules. There are many things gyms and patrons do that i don't care for. If i don't like those rules or what is going on i am free to go elsewhere.

It's not a risk your gym accepts.

Their gym, their rules.

Nice that you are being introspective about it.
Could be a stipulation from the gyms insurance?

I've seen people in the gym lifting In socks.
I workout at home alot since I finished my home gym I like to work out bare foot or in moccasins.

Personally I would not allow it if I was running the places. Gota lower ur liability as much as possible. Other than that I could give 2 craps.

Also If u or someone els was ever to drop a weight plate or dumbell on ur foot u will wish u had shoes on.

At least ur not lifting in crocs.

Saw a guy squatting at the gym and I ran over to say "you forgot to take off you shoes! How you gonna make any gains??"

It was my good deed for the day.

Jk. If it's important to you, join a different gym. I used to use chalk until I joined a gym I liked better that didn't allow chalk. So I stopped using chalk. Such is life.

What they band chalk? That's a first I've heard that. Back In the day i would never touch a straight bar without chaulk. I would get the baceball one I think? in a cloth ball and i would keep it in a large ziplock bag to not be too messy, Never got told anything but I remember getting some looks lol.

last few years I've just been using fingerless gloves, nasser style lol, only because my wife started complaining about my hands. I told her a mans hands are supposed to snag the shit out of some pantyhose, she wasent having it.

You know they have liquid chaulk now days made for weightlifting, gymnastics, and rock climbing. Never tried it but have thought about it.

Yeah man if you want to keep the gym, wear the shoes. If not find another gym.

I got kicked couple times for not having closed shoes, but it's understandable. It's a liability for them.

I dont see a reason to wear flops in the gym, but you obviously do so thats not my business. However, if the gym implies you should wear proper shoes, one should respect that decision. The gym you go to has to obey the safety procautions and if you want to workout in their facility you should respect their rules. All good

That's why I like old school gyms, no dumb rules and no annoying crowd or distractions.

I appreciate nice girls asses in leggings, but they could at least try not that hard to grab everyones attention (intentionally).

Besides, I come to lift weights and train, so I need no distractions and random thoughts of maybe hitting her. Not a place for that in my opinion. Unless it's very obvious that it will work out.

While i hear about liability. The waver i have had to sign at every gym i have went to makes me responsible for my own actions against myself. If i pull a muscle tear a tendon etc i am out of luck. Same for the gun ranges i shoot at. The business is only responsible to make sure their equipment is not a hazard for the most part. Can't say i have heard of any gym i have been using since the 80's being sued for a person harming themselves. Had a woman stumble on the tread mill last year and fall, hit her head and died. No lawsuits pending last i heard.

It may be the insurance company. They may have some small insurance company with clauses that apply to the five non-corporate gyms they insure in a three state area.

What you could do is ask the owner, if it’s a non-corporate gym. If you email the gym someone high enough to know may read it and respond.
