now i know everyone's got their own tastes and whatnot and i am one of the biggest hendrix fans myself - i've got all his albums including a studio bootleg of him and john mclaughlin on which mclaughlin just tears him apart completely. hendrix's tone is awesome though, very reminiscent of roy buchanon's. god only knows what he, hendrix, would be doing today if he were still around.
but i've seen gilbert a few time, in a few different musical contexts (a guitar clinic, with his cover band, with racer x and with mr, big - hey, my chick had tickets and the show was pretty good...) and, i swear, he did all the hendrix stuff and went way beyond that as well; i doubt hendrix would be doing anything close to paul even if he was around today. you guys really need to check out gilbert or greg howe live to see what these fuckers are all about.
now, i loved randy in the early '80's but when i personally surpassed his playing, my admiration of him kinda went south. he was a good guitar player, but that's about it...
