Enhanced Games: Olympic Games that welcomes "PEDs"

Wonderful. Thanks for sharing! About time. Nice they are providing medical testing.

But whoever put the info on the website needs some help:

Cardiac Health
By conducting an electrocardiogram, we can screen for cardiomyopathy, and determine the heart’s ejection fraction is at a safe level.

Nope.

But later down the page they get it seem to hint they are on right track in the table...

Ejection Fraction -- Cardiac Echogram

Decent set of blood markers tested. Should put the LCMS TT and other blood markers on the screen when the athletes are introduced, exciting!

Lol...

I, for one, can't wait for this. I get the original anti-doping drive I guess, especially when you consider the sports that were proxies for US/Soviet conflict during the cold war and the escalation between both sides, and as former athlete I also get the idea that if you train your whole life and are beat by someone who seems to have put in less effort, you can and will likely feel cheated, I really do.

BUT

I think we can all agree that this is mostly exaggerated and that for many, many sports skill will likely be the deciding factor (less so in the pure strength competitions, but even there a little bit). I think that this sentiment goes away if you embrace medical enhancements. And while the best funded person my win, or have a better shot, everyone competing knows the score and that is what they signed up for. I see it as active darwinism pushing the bounds of what humans can do to the max.

I think we might see some crazy shit.

Or we will see a tiny bump in performance that will show that its all been lip-service anyway... win win

This is news to me -- perhaps many of you have seen this but looks like it is moving forward. Below is the short article from business insider but also their website that I am reviewing now. Just something interesting.

Peter Thiel invests in group to recreate the Olympics on steroids — literally

www.enhanced.org
I'm assuming the drugs will make a difference in the numbers we end up seeing but I find myself wondering if the difference will be significant. Will we see people running the 100m in under 9 seconds? Will sub-2 hour marathons be a regular thing? I'm sure it would make a big difference in events that showcase explosiveness like shotput, hammer throw, javelin, pole vault, obviously weightlifting. Imagine all of these olympians swallowing bottles of halo and tren while they're doing their warmups, getting ready to send that discus into orbit. As a consumer I think it's a fantastic idea.

I support the idea behind the Enhanced Games. There are a couple of problems.

The most obvious one is that the "enhanced games" already exist - it's called the Olympics.

In spite of increasingly sophisticated anti-doping protocols, PED use appears to be pervasive in drug-tested sports.

The anti-doping tests may not stop PED use but it could very well result in sub-optimal use of PEDs. So the Enhanced Games could allow for the optimal use of PEDs which would be an improvement upon the Olympics in that regard not to mention the potential for transparent harm reduction management.

Another problem will be that all the extreme outliers in the genetic lottery are already competing in the Olympics - and will continue to do so because that is where the money is.

Their sponsorships and funding and financial support depend on competing in established and recognized competitions that masquerade as drug-free. To defect to the Enhanced Games would likely mean to abandon their income sources.

How many athletes can make living outside the moralistic framework of the Olympic Games? It would be a calculated risk that would be compounded by the fact that WADA and NADOs would ban them (most likely permanently) from future drug-tested competitions. The fact that they could never go back would be another deterrent.

So consequently, this would mean the best of the best would never consider competing in the Enhanced Games. You would only see second- and third-tier athletes that are already financially struggling to make a living in the current drug-tested environment.

Ultimately, this would mean that the Enhanced Games performances would never approach those of the Olympic Games.

And if the Enhanced Games performances never exceed those of the Olympic Games, the public will quickly lose interest. There will be no reason for anyone to watch the Enhanced Games if all the greatest performances still occur at the Olympic Games. It would be a quick death for the Enhanced Games venture.

This would be interpreted by many groups in lots of self-serving ways that would negatively reflect on PED users and enhancement technology.

However, Peter Thiel is a multi-billionaire who has a history of impactfully influencing tech, society, and politics. He could use some of his wealth to create financial incentives for athletes who defect to the Enhanced Games league.

If he did something like LIV did to upend the PGA monopoly on golf talent (maybe with health of sovereign funds), he recruit a few Olympic gold medalists and world record holders. But he would have to offer ridiculously lucrative contracts that would far exceed any lifetime earnings potential they would earn from drug-free sports competition.

The Enhanced Games1 is a planned international multisport event masterminded by Aron D’Souza, Australian businessman, where athletes will not be subject to any form of testing by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for prohibited list of substances and methods. Initially planned to be held in Australia in 2024, after the Paris 2024 Olympics, the event is now destined to take place in 2025. Reactions from the sporting world have been extremely negative, highlighting the dangers of encouraging performance-enhancing drugs (box 1).

Notably, some countries, such as Austria, France and Italy, have criminalised the use of a World Anti-Doping Code (WADC) Prohibited Substance2 while many more countries have also enacted sports-specific legislation that criminalises other Anti-Doping Rule Violations beyond the use of a WADC Prohibited Substance including (1) the possession of WADC Prohibited Substances or Methods; (2) the supply or distribution of WADC Prohibited Substances or Methods (trafficking); (3) the administration or prescription of WADC Prohibited Substances or Methods to athletes and (4) failing to cooperate with antidoping investigations being conducted by an International or National Anti-Doping Organization or other public authority.2 …

I can't wait to see how this event pans out. Very interesting. From my understanding, it's not a ped free-for-all. Each athlete must have a doctor overseeing them and the doctor must be public about them overseeing the athlete. The athletes then must go before the event to have a bunch of health tests done and if they are not healthy and have been using peds in a dangerous way, they will not be allowed to compete.

One of the more interesting things I learned recently is that they will do MMA. I'm looking forward to see some of the slightly older MMA guys who have retired or were thinking about it and will compete in the enhanced games instead.

Another interesting thing will be if high-level athletes compete not using peds. Genetics, proper training, proper mindset, etc cannot be beaten by a lower tier athlete using drugs. I hope world class non-enhanced athletes compete as well. If world class athletes are allowed to do Olympics and compete in the enhanced games totally natural, I think that will be a great event.
