Drinking Water

I know this is going to be difficult to get a conclusive answer about coz we're all in different countries/states/cities/towns/villages etc and the supply standards will be different, but generally speaking, do you still drink and trust tap water or do you buy bottled/mineral/spring/filtered etc ???
The reason for your choice would also be interesting to me.

I drink either natural or bottled water. Somehow I don't trust it. I try to drink more clean water, about 40 ml per 1 kg. weight. My physical condition strongly depends on water. I do not drink any packaged juices and drinks with sugar.

I drink from the tap... I’m from Canada.

Don’t get me wrong if I’m on the run and need some water I’ll buy a bottle. I usually have some bottles in my fridge too if I have to run out quick. I just don’t see the point in paying for most of my water when our water is good and FREE.

What do you tank?

Most UK water is the most disgusting and smelly water you could ever imagine bro. Most of it smells of bleach or chlorine. It's deemed fit and safe for human consumption (and it probably is) but I can't drink it unless I'm desperate with no other options.

I always buy bottled/spring/mineral or even cheap supermarket stuff coz it's all neutral with no taste or aroma.

People here have lost sight of the fact that most tap water now is essentially recycled toilet water, bath water, and sink water from all our homes, transported along dirty drain pipes and then chemically treated to kill off harmful bacteria before it's pushed back out into society for us to drink !

Its an interesting thread TBH. I'm from the US, so you might think that standards are great and drinking from a tap is A-OK! But, shit does happen and contamination is a big deal. I learnt the hard way back in 2009 and had the worst case of diarrhea you can imagine. Turned out the tap water was contaminated. So I've since learnt to quench my thirst with bottle water.

I thought it seemed to me that at one time I was often in the UK and often drew water from the tap and seemed so vile. I thought it might just be different and it seemed to me that it smells strongly of something.

And I had such a fun experience in Texas. I threw up for a long time and ran to the toilet. This is the worst experience in my opinion.

Bottled. Spring or alkaline. The only time I drink tap is in the hospital and then it was until my wife did the first care package.

Water taste in the UK varies considerably, depending on whether you’re in a soft water (ok-to amazing) or hard water (urgh-to fucking gross) area.

Eg after moving 100 miles or so from a soft water area (where tea & coffee tasted amazing) to a hard one, it took me months to get used to the grossness of the hard water. But you don’t notice it after a while tbh.

As for buying bottled water for general use - no, couldn’t bring myself to do it in the UK & I’ve never met anyone who does. It’s cultural I guess - water isn’t seen as a commodity here, same as with healthcare.

When i lived back in Canada i grew up on reverse osmosis purified well water drawn from the aquafer on my parents property. That shit was gold, still the best water ive ever drank. I dont know why but it seened to “quench” a thirst better than anyother water. But on occassion when the filtration system had issues the water would smell and taste like an iron bar.

Now im in southeast asia and i wont touch tap water with a 10 foot pole.

And I thought that your water is the same everywhere, I thought some kind of state standard for quality, I will know now.

Water treatment facilities and Local Authorities are duty bound to provide safe drinking water and testing is done regularly to ensure safe levels of chemicals, bacteria, and microbes etc, but there's no set standard for taste/colour/purity so tap water can taste/smell/look different from town to town and city to city.

In general... all UK tap water will have a faint bleach/chlorine smell to it coz that's what is used in the treatment process but the taste will largely depend on if it's pure surface water/rain water from a reservoir or if it's recycled toilet filth/urine from peoples homes/communities.
Old pipework in buildings/homes can also alter the taste and that kind of tap water tastes very metallic and almost bitter.

Bottled/Spring/Natural water is the only water that is consistently odourless and tasteless and is actually very refreshing to drink. Most tap water is just nasty tbh unless there's a reservoir/lake/spring nearby that's the main supply for a specfic area.

I've tried drinking 3-5 litres of tap water daily in the past and I always felt sick/ill and not very refreshed....but I've felt significantly healthier and "internally cleaner" since switching to bottled about 5 years ago.

Learned a lot, thank you. By the way, as soon as I switched to bottled water, my body began to work better and a feeling of vigor and strength. Strength in bound water.

I've never had issues with my tap water. I live in the UK and not in a city, so it's always been good, and I've noticed the difference if I drank tap water in London for example.

I appreciated the taste of water when I went to the mountains and drank clean mountain water there, and most importantly, food cooked on such water is super tasty.

Fuck bottled water. It's been sitting, soaking in plastic for who knows how long, and you are gonna drink it? All those plastics and nasty chemicals will then get infused into your body and cause endocrine disruption, act as carcinogens, etc.

Glass bottles are fine, but why? Such a waste.

I have a very nice under sink water filter that I love. But I would drink the tap water without it. I am on a well though and have extremely good water. There's no farms nearby, I'm not getting birth control and antidepressants in my water.

City water vs bottle water? I guess health wise glass bottled water...but no, just get a good filter and filter the city water to get the pharmaceuticals and carcinogens out and you're good to go.
