Does order matter in a 5x5 program?

Yes, order matters based off what you want to prioritize, although.....

If you're doing your deads last, and find you're fatigued that's good.
If you can set PR's when doing deads last in your workout, when you do them fresh, you'll kill it.

That's the way I've always looked at it.
Prioritize your lift if you need to work on form/technique, but if you can maintain form and technique while fatigued then do it last because if you can hit those PR's while burnt out, then a fresh lift pr will be even higher...

The general rule is all large mass muscles first (legs/back), while strength/energy levels are highest . Squats , deadlifts and back exercises are usually first followed by the smaller muscle groups like chest/delt and arms .

When I do 5x5 (fullbody) I usually start with squats or deads followed by bent-over-rows or pull-ups . And I usually end with the smallest group , the biceps . Goodluck ~Ogh

I try to think of it as being fully warmed up for deadlifts, doing them last.
That way, even a huge pull isn't really risking an injury.

If you only want to do deadlift why not do deadlift only competitions? They are not very hard to find but thing is they don't happen a lot. If you must do 3 lift events, take some suger free gummy bears and honey or what ever you want to take. If you are on the fence about not having enough energy to perform the lift after the 2 events "squat, bench" eat slow digesting carbs, fruits, sweet potatos, yams, wild rice, 1 to 2 hours before the start of the competition, have something with you to eat while between rests during the event. you should have plenty of time to recover.
