Do I have to eat ASAP after waking up?

I was schooled by a friend of mine (who is also a doctor and 220 lbs of muscle) to at least eat SOMETHING upon wakeup. Preferably glucose. He said even an apple or an extra sugary coffee . Just to send the message to your body to switch of the catabolic state. You wake up catabolic. Also explained that a slow digesting protein before bed is optimal. (Cassien)

Catabolism and anabolism are constantly going back and forth to varying degrees depending on many factors yet you still don't need to eat on waking unless you happen to be hungry and want to.

Drinking a bottle of water as soon as you get up helps tremendously with getting a meal down soon after waking up. The water makes your body get ready with it's daily work, and is just helpful. Yogurt seems to be easy for me as a first meal. After that first meal I feel a lot better. This is a good forum or whatever.

But isn't the goal for bulking to remain in an anabolic state as much as possible. Hence why meal times are significant.
Just asking. I'm no pro myself. Still working on my own diet problems. Lol

Meal times are only significant to you. Eat when you're hungry, when you want, when you can, etc.

Question doc. If you don't take any protein in the morning and and wait until your hungry wouldn't that lead to muscle catabolism? 2. If spreading your meal out doesn't matter and you consume all your calories in 2 meals can your body efficently breakdown and use say 150g protein in one meal ? 3 would skipping breakfast lead to increased hunger later and your more likely to eat anything in sight as opposed to healthy? There's so many contradictions on how to eat it's crazy. Now that I hear it doesn't matter Im more confused then ever.

@ErikR Eat when you are hungry. As long as your macros are where you need them to be, or where youre aiming them to be..then it should not make a significant difference at all. Do what works for you. Some people eat one meal a day and snack throughout, some fast, some overeat..just do you.

If it does I have never noticed. I wake up around 5am or earlier most days and usually won't eat until around 9am. Lately I've been skipping that and just eating at noon. been stronger and in better shape bc I hit my daily macros which is most important.

Also the higher the catabolism between meals typically means a higher anabolic response at the next meal. The body will compensate.

Yes the body can efficiently make use of a 150g protein meal. Do you know how long it would take for the body to digest all that protein? Hours and hours and hours while making sure it gets all that it can from the meal.

3 would skipping breakfast lead to increased hunger later and your more likely to eat anything in sight as opposed to healthy?

For some ppl possibly. For me, skipping bfast usually means I eat less during the day bc I have less time to stuff the same amount if calories in.

There is a lot of misinformation. Bottom line is eat your daily macro needs in whatever number of meals and when you want to or are able to. If you want 6-8meals go for it. If you want 2-3 your progress won't suffer for it.

Dude 26 lbs in 12 weeks is sweet. I was 176 15 weeks ago and now I'm 201 heading into pct this upcoming Sunday. Maybe time to give your receptors a break. Come off for a little while, get the boys back online for a little bit, then fucking eat and pin and repeat! Lol!
But yes I have the problem in the morning too since I wake up for work at 5 am. I pre cook eggs and just blend me a hefty ass protein shake . Then eat a little later.
