Dangerous Dogs

Before you reply to this thread please understand that this is not about dog fighting/aggression/pitbulls !!!

Many people buy dogs to feel safe and secure in their homes whilst also loving the companionship and undivided loyalty a dog will give them.....but how far would you go with owning a large/protective breed as a family member/pet?

For instance....would you own the ultimate?

As someone that has dealt with dangerous dogs, feral dogs that run in packs in a rural setting.

I have no use for dangerous breeds. My aunt was mauled by two large dogs and had to be put back together and she's a sweet old lady. I've been surrounded without a firearm by packs of dogs that I had to fight off.

I handled the dog problem where I live .22LR pistol, I give one warning shot and if they don't stop I'm putting them down. These owners that let their dogs run free in a rural setting don't realize that people walk and ride their bikes and when these dogs come in they will kill you if you don't have a firearm.

I have no use for dangerous dogs at all. I have small dogs, a Toy Poodle and Miniature Pinscher and they are cuddly and nice to everyone. You can't get a better chick magnet than a Toy Poodle, no matter how ugly you are.

Surprised this thread didn't get more replies from the only country outside of India with a major "dangerous dog" problem.

Seems pitts and bullybreeds are the only mad dogs worth talking about for USA members here?

No probs.

I'm not sure about India.

Where I live it's legal to shoot a dog that threatens human or livestock, as long as you're outside of city limits.

If you're inside of city limits the smart choice is a high powered pellet pistol as that will get a dog off you real quick. I've shot pitbulls and other breeds like a chow that have come in on me and they yelp and screech running off when you point blank them with a pellet pistol, except that chow that was completely crazy that used to chase me. I got the point where I wanted to kill that dog.

For sure India/Asia is the worst place for dangerous dogs (and also just ferral/stray dogs in general tbh).

They've got wild Kangals and Bully Kuttas roaming loose out there and if one of those decided to attack.....you probably wouldn't even have time to pull out a gun.

I get attacked/challenged by dogs 3 times a week in UK (walking/cycling etc) but luckily it's always been smaller dogs so far that don't have the ability to kill me so they tend to just herd me and run around me barking and trying to threaten me but if they actually bit me and I got hold of one of them I could kill it or hurt it with my bare hands very easily.

I wouldn't like to face a capable dog without a weapon though and there's plenty of stupid owners over here who let their dangerous dogs run loose off leash in parks and public places with absolutely no idea about canine mentality.

In those cases a pellet pistol in city limits is the weapon of choice.

Trust me you point blank a dog in the face with pellet pistol that will go through 3/8" plywood and they'll yelp and run off.

Pepper spray isn't gonna work unless you've got bear spray and even that is too slow for a dog sneaking up on you. Wasp spray will also work, but it's not good in an emergency.

No bad dogs, just bad dog owners.

I have a pit bull that sleeps next to my my wife and I in her own bed, and 2 German Rottweilers that are outside dogs. Yes they have a heated and comfortable home.

So very true bro.
Thank you. I've raised dogs my entire adult life. Start with an Intelligent breed and train them beginning as pups.

I don't have close neighbors but my postman is okay with leaving a package at my door. My dogs are friendly with people they know, but if they don't know you or pickup a fucked up vibe they let everyone know. I've had people come over who they just don't like. Not often, but it has happened.

They will take no food from anyone but me. They allow my wife to pet them, and I would never worry for her safety, but they belong to me.

Training and socialisation are the 2 most important factors in sensible dog ownership.

Most people want their dogs to be protective and that's perfectly fine at home but if your dogs are barking/lunging at people in public and in social situations....you've fucked up with training.

Dogs are very intuitive creatures and they can sense/smell danger via pheromones but in order to own a dog responsibly you need to teach it when to "trigger" and when to stay calm.

I have 2 pits that are awesome dogs and know the difference between a threat and what’s not.

I had a cane corso several years back, $1800 dog and I gave that fucker away just to get rid of it, that dog was straight up dangerous and no way in hell I would have trusted it around my kids

if you want to hunt water foul get a labrador,
if you want to hunt upland birds get a pointer,
if you want to corral cows get a herding breed ,
my point is most dogs are bred for a purpose,
pitbulls are bred to fight it.s an instinct that is their..just remember what their bred for when you choose a breed

That's the problem.

People think Pitbulls are babies. They were in fact bread to fight to the death and they do a damn fine job of this.

67% of all dog attack fatalities are caused by Pitbulls.

If you have a demographic that accounts for 67% of violent deaths, you can bet your ass that's not just bad owners, that's a breed that is straight up dangerous. There is a genetic component to violence, it's not just bad parenting. You can visit your local prison and see people that were raised by great parents and they turned into psychopaths that won't hesitate to kill you.

How many of these idiot parents have a pit bull around their baby and the dog kills their baby in a split second and they act surprised like the dumb fucks, never even bothered checking the statistics.

I've owned lots of dogs, but the only two dogs I had a problem with was my German Shepard and my Doberman. The Shepard jumped my fence and attacked and tore a small dog to pieces. My Doberman attacked one of my small dogs and tore him to pieces and I had her put down after that shit. I treated both those dogs with total respect, showed them lots of love, they sat on the couch with me and had a good life.

I have from that point only owned small breeds, mostly miniture pinschers of which I've probably had a dozen over my almost 50 years and toy poodles which is my favorite breed because they're damn smart. I got no use for a dog that shows any aggression towards humans and I would never take a chance owning such a beast.

I know of a few bad owners, but never came across a bad dog.
You need to take a walk in my neck of the woods. I can assure you you'll change your tune real quick once a pack of precious pooches spot you and dart for the street with a look on their face that will strike terror in you.

Don't worry I'll be beside you with a firearm to get rid of them, because I can assure you that's the only way you're gonna get out alive.

We have a similar problem here in UK with Staffordshire Bull Terriers and "mixed" bully breeds.
They're treated like status symbols by people who think they look cool/scary but they don't understand the mentality of the breed(s)..

I think just the other day a little girl was mauled in your area by one of those creatures. I think she was 17 months old, with dumbshit parents that let her be killed by a filthy beast.

It happens at least once every week tbh.

These type of dogs won't just bite/nip as a warning and then stop. They will literally launch a death attack on you and they won't quit until you stop moving/stop breathing.

Lol..."beside" me...I see them charging towards me and I'm outta there.

I own 2 pits and both are friendly dogs, but the problem with any pit is they can get into what’s called a frenzy, and when they tear into something there is no calling them off by command, they keep going
