Creatine without sugar?

I've asked this question a long time ago but though it would be good to revisit it.

As I understand it, the idea behind intaking sugar or other high-glycemic substance (e.g. dextrose) with creatine is to create an insulin spike, which ensures that the creatine can be absorbed quicker and better. My problem is that I'm prone to insulin insensitivity, so I'd like to do without the spike as much as I can.

I've seen some products out there (e.g. vitargo) which claim to transport the creatine well without sugar. I'm keeping an open mind about these products but I'm dubious about them: as far as I know, they skirt around the central issue, which is, you need an insulin spike of some sort optimize the creatine.

So I guess my question is, is there something I can do to blunt the spike while still ensuring the creatine gets driven into muscle tissue?

IMO, once your creatine levels are saturated, there is no real use having an insulin spike. And you can achieve saturation, over time, without tons of carbs. The stuff is so cheap that taking 10-15g/day is only pennies (or maybe a few Can. dollars since youre north of the border. :D) and you can take that much over a month or so and be "creatine full."

Thanks Bob I didn't know this.

Do you get upset stomachs from taking 10-15 g ed?

Its been so long since Ive bothered with creatine that I really dont remember.

Really, the big idea behind adding sugar to creatine is so manufacturers can charge an assload more money for a creatine product with some cheap dextrose and citric acid flavoring (or whatever they use).

If you want to take your creatine with a sugar, then just put it in some apple juice or something. It might not help, but I don't think it will hurt either.

It seems like most of the studies I have read about creatine use did not include sugar and they showed positive results, so in the end it is probably not worth it.
