I plan on getting my oldest (the one with diagnosed aspbergers and adhd) in to combatives to give him confidence in school. Its easy to pick on kids like that and separate them as weak prey when in reality the kid with aspbergers is likely without a doubt the smartest kid in the classroom but he is also vulnerable to social engagments. He cant seem to discern simple communications like who his friend is and whos picking on him. He doesnt have much empathy. Its a strange thing
Some things that usually go hand in hand with autism is a screwed up digestive system. My son requires miralax to go shit. A diaper because he will shit himself due to not either being aware of his bowl movements or the inability to stop them. Not sure which. Even after all these yrs i cant figure out which it is. Some things to consider
Also if money is an issue and he or she is actually diagnosed SSI will help with some care and medicines if your under a certain income threshold. Check what your state can provide for you as well. I lived in NY for 28 yrs and now TX. NY had ALOT of special education tools at our disposal. Specialized schooling free of charge that got my son, who was 3 at the time, prepared for public school. Gave him a much needed running start. Special aid's when he was in public school to help him thru the day. They also provided help with home aid's free of charge to provide speech therapy and social stimulus. Also we had a major university come conduct a study on my son at home which was cool. It was a broad study not necessarily about him.
TX is very different. We havent got a lick of help down here for anything. The victories we won were the ones we fought for. As in my wife against the entire school board. They dont wanna spend a dime and they will try to do everything possible to prevent it. I started to have to attend board meetings with her to back her up and make sure no one either intimidated her or backed her down. We eventually got the school aid he needed but it wasnt easy. We dont get help from SSI down here and pretty much anything else. My wife operates an autism awareness group on her own time. She has alot of passion for this stuff
