Cheapest food with the most nutrients in?

I'm basically living on a tight budget at the moment, and my daily food intake is 3-4 servings of pork chop, rice, and frozen peas, and a large serving of overnight protein oats.

Naturally, this isn't optimal regarding nutrient intake. I do take specific supplements like Fish oil, Folic Acid (Prescribed as low), vitamin D, and a cheap multivitamin, but I'd much prefer to get more nutrients in my diet. I'm not sure exactly how much I spend on food, but it's probably around £75-£125 a month (£20-£30 a week) total.

What are the cheapest sources of nutrients I can buy to include in my diet?

I live in the UK for reference.

I'm.on a tight budget as well, eggs are a staple, cottage cheese, high protein Greek yogurt, bulk chicken from a farm, and pork

I usually get whatever meat is on sale

For carbs sources I'd opt for sweet potato and rice

And a shitload of frozen veggies

How is 93% lean 7%fat work out to 70% ground beef?

Alternatively, just buy steak

Not much mince here is actually lean beef/steak unless you specifically read the labelling and buy the good quality stuff and you're fooling yourself if you think a pack of mince is all fillet, sirloin, rump.

Most mince is just garbage beef trimmings with a high fat content.

Also, don't forget about the supermarket horse meat scandal not too long ago.

Supermarket mince could literally be a mixture of "anything".

Probably true bro. I'd like to know if I'm buying horse/donkey/goat though rather than being tricked by a supermarket into thinking it's a beef steak lol.

I actually stopped buying supermarket steak several years ago coz the flavour/texture wasn't the same anymore.

I used to really enjoy a nice thick sirloin/rump/fillet steak....but something changed in the big supermarkets here.

There's only certain places I would buy steak from these days.

I'm an ex-professional chef bro so I'll eat any animal if I like the taste and I've got no emotions about killing an animal for food......but mince/ground "meat" isn't the best choice if you're looking for a high protein/low fat source.

It's almost always the trimmings/offcuts from the animal with a high fat content.....especially if you buy from a big supermarket.

Yeah we don't have minced beef here in the USA. I mean I'm sure there's somewhere that sells it but when you go to the regular grocery store I have never seen it

Thanks for the help everyone. I would buy steak and eat it every day, but it's about 3-6x more expensive than the pork I buy, cause when it's not on fofer the pork is £6/kg, and on offer it can be as low as £3/kg. If I lived in America and it was cheap enough I'd definitely get bison, Stan Efferding highly recommends it and I got a fair bit of success with his vertical diet, and only stopped cause I was broke and tons of it costs $$$.

Getting more eggs in is probably a good idea. I might start having frozen fruit smoothies every day again, maybe add an egg to each one. Depends on how much it'd add to my food bills, but I used to do it years ago and I believe it improved my sense of well being all around.

Do you realise that ground beef (called mince in UK) is mostly 70% saturated fat /meat trimmings/offcuts..

If your a professional chef I would think you would know like 80/20 or 90/10 ground beef is not 70 percent fat. Mabey its different in uk

Perhaps saying 70% was a slight exaggeration bro but unless it's packaged as minced lean steak (not just beef) you can guarantee a very high fat content in most of the crap in a supermarket.

I bought some fresh burgers a few weeks ago to cook on my george foreman at work and the amount of white lard left on the grill after it cooled down was ridiculous.

Same situation with most supermarket ready meals like chilli or lasagna. You can see all the fat around the edges after heating.

Mince is not a good choice here unless you can be sure it's mainly "lean steak" and not just "beef/meat".

Yeah that sucks. It sounds like beef products just suck where you live. Here in the USA beef is a major deal...there are cow farms everywhere. So we get the good lean ground beef it's great. We have multiple options to choose from. I mean you can even get ground up lean sirloin at every Supermarket here.
