can’t stay asleep

yeah i guess i’ll be careful with it. i have both prop and trazadone. trying trazadone instead, does it have similar effects on weight gain? curious to hear anecdotes
I've been taking trazodone for 10 years like I said , and I haven't had any weight increased from it

The thing about trazodone is it gets you to sleep fast I've been taking it for about 10 years and it knocks you out fast and it's up to you to maintain the sleep for the rest of the night good luck with your journey
This. Trazadone helps you fall asleep. Escipiclone (lunesta) helps keep you asleep. My dr has had me try everything under the sun to cure my insomnia and this has been the golden combo for me. Consistent 7-8hrs sleep, still get up a couple times a night but I feel actually rested when I wake up.

Its been years ive been taking this nightly and not really much "dependence/tolerance" issues. You do have to be mindful of your sleep hygine though, these arent tranqualizers lol

Ive worked up to 300mg traz and 2mg lunesta. Dr tried giving me 3mg lunesta and I had the worst experience so back to 2mg. Ive actually cut trazadone in half to 150 because was experiencing some morning grogginess. Seems my sleep has improved and I no longer need that high a dose. On 150 I wake up light a switch was flipped and I was just awake. Ive made a lot of lifestyle changes to improve my sleep over the years though.

just used my first traz last night. believe i knocked out around 20 minutes after taking it? but still had my usual 1AM wakeup, unable to go back to sleep. no grogginess or dry mouth. i’ll have to check out lunesta then.

My psych had me taking a bunch of magnesium and melatonin at one point. Think it helped, but I didnt want to be taking melatonin daily.

Using a Z drug is definitely the most effective way, although ideally its something youll be using as needed and not nightly. Thats my goal atleast. I wasnt making any progress in any aspect of life (physical, mental health, nutrition, injury recovery) until I finally got some sleep. Suddenly my antidepressant started working, my energy levels climbed, brain fog got better, appetite came back, physical therapy started progressing and most things finally started falling into place.

Sleep is everything. Thats coming from someone who has beel battling insomnia with 2-3 hours of interrupted sleep nightly for 6+ years

This is my bedtime stack and I sleep like a baby: (I’m also on Tren)

- Gaba
- 5-HTP
- Ashwaganda
- L-Theanine
- Magnessium
- Melatonin (5mg)
- NAC (I can’t take it during the day because it makes me sleepy.)
- Curcumin C3

I'm taking all of them except curcumin and 5htp and my sleep is trash. I'm also on tren now but it was the same before, I'll have to quit reta entirely to see if this is the real issue. I'm sleeping like a brick for 3-4 hours and then i can't stay asleep, usually waking up 6-10 times in the next 3 hours. Yesterday i had 25 minutes rem lol.. still scared to try Z drugs though.

It doesn't get mentioned much but mirtazapine is great for staying asleep. 7.5mg before bed works great. Been taking this for 2 years. Cutting caffeine out 8 hours before bed is also ideal.
i hear it makes you ravenous... would throw a wrench in my cut if I were to wake up throughout the night and eat the kitchen lol

everyone says "magnesium bro" or "melatonin bro" but i agree. melatonin shouldn't be taken daily, and magnesium does fuckall for the most of us. sorry about your issues with insomnia. what antidepressant did they give you a script for? i got one for lexapro and haven't touched it.

Whats the concern with Z drugs? Dependence? I feel you, I was anti all mental health meds until my body started physically reacting to the stress via palpatations, pvc's, blood pressure ect. I didnt know what else to do so finally gave them a chance. Definitely useful tools for the right situations

Mirtazapine has been the only medication that has caused quick weight gain for me. I only gave it like 2-3 weeks before I threw the bottle back at my psych saying nope.

afraid i might miss a day of my certain Z drug and deal with a terrible night of insomnia. it's the thought of relying on a medication for arguably one of the most essential human functions... but i'd be willing to do traz long term. guess i'll just have to tough out my concerns and see my results.

yeah. wanted to ask about mirtz but all these anecdotes of hunger made me steer clear, seems that it isn't well suited for people in a bodybuilding/active lifestyle context

I still take magnesium nightly, its good for a bunch of other things anyways. I had to try a few before finding something that worked for me. Sertraline was first, spent many years on it. Id say around the beginning of this year, psych had me cycle sertraline for fluoxetine. Both have done well for me. I also take wellbutrin and adderall. Thats the stack my psych has me on and its been game changer for me

Mostly dependence yeah. My first thought was mirtazapine before Z meds but half users praise it and half hated it so it’s keeping me away from taking it.

Yeah, if your more comfortable with mirtazapine then maybe give it a shot. Everyone responds differently. Some people dont get weight gain on it. I unfortunately did though.

First line of defense for Psychs is Hydroxizine or any other antihistamine that makes you drowsy. I didnt find it very effective and I am more worried about continuous antihistamine use and its link to brain degenerative diseases. Sleepy teas work well for a lot of ppl too if you wanna stick to natural options.

For what its worth, I still get sleepy if I dont take the lunesta and sometimes I just decide to fall asleep instead of getting up to take it. Or if im out late night and get home at like 4am, ill just skip it and still get to sleep.

I have rx for Lunesta and Sonata. The Sonata is the one I have to use most often as my job is a weird on-call, no schedule, don't know when I'm working or when I get to sleep thing. The Sonata works fast and clears fast. Won't give me a full night sleep, but I can get a few hours and it won't interfere with me when I get called to work.

I also have concerns with dependence - the flip side to that is the Z's also build tolerance.

With that in mind, I have a stash of a bunch of other things so I don't rely on any single drug every night. Some work better than others, but a rotation seems to prevent both dependence and tolerance.

I use:
Sonata
Lunesta
Melatonin
Doxylamine
Trazadone
Hydroxyzine
Pregabalin
