Can taking reta cause elevation of liver enzymes?

Can taking reta cause this much elevation of liver enzymes? My ALT numbers were above normal before I started but not nearly as high as they are now.

Hey brother, I jumped in to say that Reta is actually looking like a very good compound for liver health, especially fatty liver.
What were your numbers before? I’m no expert but an ALT 395 and AST 146 is seriously high and I’m glad you’re here talking about it. Keep us posted once you get an understanding of what caused that.
But to answer your question directly, no Reta does not cause this kind of liver enzyme elevation. It actually looks like it will do the exact opposite. From my understanding the way it targets the glucagon receptor signals liver cells to start breaking down and burning liver fat. That massive reduction of liver fat should cause a similar reduction in your liver enzymes like ALT.

Please follow up on this with your doctor. Best of luck.

I haven't had any blood markers worsening since jumping on Reta, but we also know very little still about the especially long term effects of it and individual side effects. Even though this would be the first time I heard of this

Did your labs include a GGT or CK?

Those AST / ALT look a little high to be just from training effect but if you are / were also dehydrated it could be. The GGT and CK would be helpful in troubleshooting. And yes, like the others said, are you taking orals, Tylenol, booze?

GGT was 12 and is suppose to be under 65
CK was high at 359 and is suppose to be under 165 but I assume that’s just from training as well, if I gave it 2 weeks off training I figure I’d be in normal range….

No. Are you taking acetaminophen, cheap oral steroids, or drinking lots of alcohol?
The liver doctor agrees with you that taking retatrutide is unlikely to be the cause of my liver problems. He thinks the problem is the Lipitor (atorvastatin). He did recommend that I stop taking reta in the meantime. Due to concern about my liver, the desire to be cautious, and the fact that I'm still taking tirz (which works, but not well enough), I am following his advice and have stopped taking reta. I plan on getting another blood test in about a month (sooner than my doctor has ordered.) If my liver function tests returns to normal, I'll resume the reta, then get another liver function test. I'm hoping that it's the Lipitor because otherwise I'll have to have a liver biopsy. The doctor said that's outpatient but I'll be off work for two weeks. That means I'll feel bad for a while. If the Lipitor is involved, then I'll need to consider options other than Lipitor that may include other statins and may include just not being on a statin.

Make sure you don’t weight train for 3 days or so to eliminate that as a cause of the elevated LFTs. And make sure to get GGT in addition to the others standard LFTs

I checked. My prior liver tests didn't show GGT. In about 10 days, I'll get my next liver test. Due to your comment (and me looking up GGT afterwards), my test will include GGT.

I don’t have the discipline to take 2-3 days off training before bloodwork but since all my labs have been drawn after a day of training I know where my personal baseline levels AST / ALT are. And I always order GGT and it’s always normal. In your case though I would take the 2-3 days off training since we’re troubleshooting.

Am I correct that the blood testing results below, along with the dates of drug stops and starts, indicates that reta is likely causing liver problems? By the way, I don't plan on resuming Lipitor (atorvastatin) since I already had elevated enzymes while on it. I intend to speak with my cardiologist about pitavastatin. I take no drugs designed to increase muscle size or strength (e.g., AAS, TRT, HGH). I'm only on Meso because I figure people here are likely better at interpreting blood results than folks on GLP-1 forums. These results are troubling since tirz alone was not getting me to a weight that I wanted to be.
