Bun / Kidney question.

Question here regarding some past results.
I had some high Bun and Bun/Creatinine results on prior blood work. I was not taking anything at the time but since have had a clinic approve anavar. although I sourced from an UG that I haven't started yet. (Currently run test)
I do consume a protein heavy diet, and have Crohns with occasional small amounts of gastro bleeding. I initially attributed it to those two things.
After exploring here I’ll be updating bloods with cystatin c.
but in the meantime was just wondering what the general thoughts are here and if I should be adding anything else to my next run of bloods.

Id wait to see what the cystatin c test brings back if your getting it done soon. Thats the one kidney docs go to next if other things are out of whack. High bun (and yours is just slightly elevated) can come from dehydration, high protien diets, and some medications (not sure if your taking anything for the Crohns). If the cystatin c come back indicating kidney issues, Id consult a nephrologist. You damn sure dont wanna end up on dialysis later in life!

Thanks for the insight. No meds in recent years for that other than the occasional anti inflammatory steroid shot . Diet and exercise keeps the body in check these days. I’ll be adding cystatin c within the next week and follow up.

In dogs we often see elevated BUN with normal creatinine in gi bleeds (or recent protein intake if not fasted) also elevates more significantly in dehydration as its actively reabsorbed in the kidney giving the increased BUN:Creatinine ratio.

I would do the cystatin c test but I would be reasonably confident your kidneys will be fine. Creatinine especially in well muscled individuals is often high end of reference range. Greyhounds often are above normal reference ranges for other breeds
