Are all 45lbs the same?

I was curious about something. When I'm benching or leg pressing or squating I find myself always grabbing the "phat" 45lbs plates oppose to the skinny 45lbs plates.

Is the weight different between the skinny and phat 45lbs plates? If you watch any of Kevin Levorne's (sp) workout video you'll see he too grabs the PHAT 45lbs plates.

Thanks guys

In theory, 45 is 45 is 45. However, I would bet that there is some difference between plates, particularly if they're the cheap ones that the gym bought to save money. Either way, the difference should only be a couple ounces.

yes the phat 45 pound plates are designed purely for mesomorph body types, where as the skinny 45 pound plates ore designed for ectomorph body types

LOL!

There should be no difference in weight between a fat 45 and a thin 45. Is there, yes. Most companies quality control standards are not exactly spectacular, so variations of as much as 2-4 pounds are common. Now, a company like Ivanko will be dead-on within a few grams.

lol that is right. shouldn't matter at all. just use fatty on both sides or skinny on both sides but really should be balls on. weigh em if u r that concerned. now as for my son's weights(plastic sand filled) i know one of the 13.2 pounders is off b/c it has a crack and leaked some sand out lmao. he isn't ready for the real weight yet.

Actually, back in the old days......in the high school weight room and at my first gym - torrance athletic club - they had man's plates.....the big-rimmed bell foundry company 45s. None of us wanted to use the thinner BFCO 45s because we felt that they killed the psyche during a lift; skinny men lift skinny plates. However, the problem was that the thick-rimmed BFCO plates were as much as 10% off. If you remember the plates, the casting was very rough and the material quality throughout the pour was a crap shoot.

Unfortunately, most gyms today have the chic iron grip and jade plates which have little handles built in so that the girls and fitness enthusiast types can grab hold of them without braking a nail. Finding a gym with the old BFCO plates is rare in major metropolitan areas.

Personally, I liked the old plates much better than what I find in my travels today.

By the way, if it is not too much trouble, please provide the lexican definition for the word "Phat". I cant seem to find it in Webster's or the Oxford.

If it isn't in Oxford, you ain't gonna find it anywhere. If the OED doesn't define it, then it's not an English word.

Phat is another word that frequently is given an acronymic origin. The exact acronym varies with the telling, Pretty Hot And Tempting, Pretty Hips And Thighs, and Pussy Hips Ass Tits have all been suggested. There is no evidence supporting any acronymic origin.

Rather, phat is most likely simply a slang respelling of fat. Such respellings are common in slang. And fat has a long history of meaning rich, abundant, or desirable. Fat has been used this way in English since the early 17th century, and in other languages for far longer. The specific sexual connotation of phat is likely just a specialization of the general meaning. Some suggest it may be a clipping of emphatic. Again, there is no evidence for this last, but at least it's more plausible than any of the acronymic origins.

Phat is also older than you might think. It has been a staple of African American slang since at least 1963.

Clipping of "emphatic"? Yeah, like shitbags who dropped out in 6th grade and didn't pay attention the former 6 years have a fucking clue as to what the definition of emphatic is.
