Anyone use mountain dog workouts or something similar?

John Meadows is the man. I definitely recommend anyone in this hobby/sport try at least 1 of his programs. The typical suggestion is Gamma Bomb in the bulk/off season and Creeping Death II in a cut/prep... but really it doesn't have to be that deep. Both are super popular programs.

In general I really like John's methodology around activation sets leading into pump sets leading into stretched sets (e.g. a low RPE db chest press -> incline barbell bench -> cable flyes/db pullover for example). Just makes my muscles feel BIG at the end of every session. I am oversimplifying it obviously, JM's programs have a lot more thought put into them than just that... BUT I have copied that structure more or less in parts of my current custom programming.

I use his static holds you’d see in some videos. Crazy stretch and I swear i get more soreness from doing so in my lifts.

Final working set I’ll drop the weight and do a drop set with a 30-45 seconds static hold at full stretch (safely)

Just can’t do it excessively probably be bad or cause problems.

I’ve wanted to run one his programs for a while, everyone who’s run any of them speaks highly of them.

They’re kinda pricey on his website and I don’t have the heart to steal them. Sad!

Many people like his workouts. I have used them some. I find all workouts work. What a person likes and will do long term seems to work the best.

I ran “creeping death” post one of my powerlifting seasons to get a break and work straight hypertrophy. It is structured very well with good pre-exhausts and has intensifier's to keep it interesting and progressive. My tried and true hypertrophic work was 5/3/1 BBB but that gets old after a while.

I'm curious, I see he has one that's supposedly geared toward women and one geared toward legs, anybody tried either of those? I'd do legs every day if I could...

My Mrs is just starting the women’s program today, I’ll let you know how she gets on

Yea those holds are definitely good.

Looking for a new workout plan was thinking about something on mountain dog or sam suleks website.
Tough question, should you run the programs of a guy that just started training a few years, and at least in his beginning, grew from eating absolutely terribly and running presumably pretty high doses
OR
should you get programs from someone respected by literally anyone in this entire sport for over two decades, that ran 250mg of Test round round, in better shape than many on stage, and then just threw in some Anadrol a few weeks before his shows?

John Meadows is a fucking legend

I don't know his drug cycles (or believe anyone who claims such knowledge), but you'll make progress on any Mountain Dog programs

Just maybe could've stressed the importance of sleep hygiene more

I think it was Andrew Berry, that just talked about this, either on BSG, or his own Unwrecked Podcast.
I do believe him, as I have heard similar things about Meadows before, and they were AFAIK close. Berry still works for Granite supplements.

To be clear, I am not claiming this is how John built his size at the beginning.

Yeah Berry said this was what John did later in his career. But he said he built his physique "like all of us did back then."

John meadows and the mountain dog training philosophy has had the biggest impact on my training. His banded DB pullovers are one of my all time favorite back movements

I ran pretty much MD training exclusively for 10 years straight; I got lucky and was brought up by the guy who took over MD after John’s passing. Former coach/ long time training partner and friend, John’s business partner and protege. I can attribute the fact my legs have always been my best feature solely to this style of training. I’ve moved on to other things the last few years but my core style will always be mountain dog.

I cherry pick some of his training days in his myriad programs.

I enjoy his exercise sequences, rep ranges and unique technique tweaks. Learned from him to always elevate toes on a plate while doing RDLs for stronger stretch of the hammies. Also agree with above about banded db pullovers. They blow my teres majors UP!!!
