Any vinyl or cd colectors here?

I'm a huge metal fan. There are literally hundreds of bands I enjoy. Anyone here into collecting vinyl records, cds or band shirts? My wife thinks it's a big waste of money. There's something about being a metalhead and needing the music to be on physical format.

Most casual music listeners, especially fans of county and hip hop feel just fine streaming their music. In the metal world you're called a poser of you don't own a physical copy.

I’ve got a decent collection of just about all of the genres. I have an original Black Sabbath Master of Reality Vinyl with the poster that came inside. The wife likes them too but she’s more of the temptations type. What you got?

Nine Inch Nails is my obsession. I have collected in spurts over the years.

Thankfully, I have been too busy to get obsessed with finding there ultra rare stuff now that I make adult money.

I completely completely completely hear ya with the physical format (not all that different from reading a book instead of audio or on a screen).

If I ever found a record player setup that was semi-affordable AND produced decent sound, then I would fall down the vinyl rabbit hole.

If your wife thinks it's a waste of money then pick your battles and tread lightly.

I once attended a NIN concert in a collared shirt and tie. (Sorry, it's my daily wear and fuck it, it's all I had handy). You sir have my permission to pause the physical collection for a bit...we can be poseurs in different ways (I didn't give a fuck what anyone at that concert thought of my attire...and pretty sure not a single person gave a second glance but if they did, that Muzak was too entrancing for everyone!)

P.S. you don't have to pause it forever....just long enough for it to become your wife's idea to collect when she wants to surprise you with something...lol

Edit: I am in no way saying NIN qualifies as metal,. though so maybe I'm the wrong person to give you the blessing.. another lol

I had a much larger vinyl collection but sold 99% of it. I had mainly thrash, death and black metal vinyl. Mercyful Fate and King Diamond being the exceptions. We needed some emergency funds at the time.

Bands I owned but sold were: Krisiun, Malevolent Creation, Deicide, Dying Fetus, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Immortal, Marduk, Dark Funeral, Centurian, and many more bands.

Biggest regret was not putting all the signed vinyl to the side to keep. Only kept one band "Dismember," of signed vinyl. Probably because I drove 2 hours in bumper to bumper traffic to have them sign them.

I semi paused rebuilding my collection. I'm being a lot more disciplined and not spending a lot at one time. Rebuilding it little by little.

Cds are half the price of vinyl. I thought about just sticking with collecting those. Vinyl has gotten ridiculously priced. Although the lure of vinyl is the large presentation. Cds are obviously small booklets and artwork.

I love the sound of vinyl. My collection isn’t large but I have several genres. I’m older so I like listening to the albums that were released when vinyl or 8-track was the only option.

The Beatle’s Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Steve Miller Band’s Greatest Hits.

And some newer stuff like the Purple Rain soundtrack, and old and newer country music.
