Any gamers here?

I was a fckn gamer until I was 13...

You know, there are such elite schools where your parents suit you, and then the mother boasts on the phone to her friends where her son is studying. wow wow so cool!

I was thrown out of this school because, after Fallout 2, math was too boring. Damn it.

It was just a weak-willed child, at that moment I regretted that I was not from the Amish community, where children definitely do not encounter such problems.

How did I stop? very simple - testosterone! puberty.

Of course, I was a dumb jerk, but even then I understood that even the most eloquent story about the range of a gauss rifle was not able to put a girl to bed. So I started my way to the gym.

I was a fan of Unrial Tornament (remember anyone?), Diablo II, Vampire Masquerade, Red Alert II and many more.

As a student, when I bought my first PC (with my own money) I thought... damn it, I can buy a cool video card, well then I'll be thrown out of the university.

Finally,I completed my master's degree. As you understand, I have not bought a cool video card so far XD

Now I look at my children, and I hope that they will be smarter than me. At least their puberty will be "same strong". haha

P.S. A very perverse situation happened when I broke my leg. I borrowed a powerful game PS from a friend and played Escape from Tarkov with great pleasure. I even thought... damn! It's great that I have the opportunity to relax and play this masterpiece! Now I'm afraid of this game

Wait so you blame video games for your failures in school? I played games all through elementary and high school and I currently still play when I have the time. Time is a scarce thing because I work full time, I'm a full time college student and I have to fit in family and gym time. But it definitely hasn't ever caused me to fail in school.

It would be stupid to blame the videogame, sir, I blame myself.

Because of my dopamine nature, I easily succumb to instant fun'n'pleasure that harms long-term results.

So videogaming as an instant hobby is not for me.
As a series, if it is interesting, such as Breaking Bad or Wayne, I just drop everything and watch several seasons a day.

Between pleasure and duty, I made the stoic choice in favor of duty.

Great story, enjoyed reading it. I also played ps without getting out, who was sick :)

I think there are people who do not have self-discipline and control. If they like something they spend all their time on it. It's like working from home, many complain that it's not possible to build a routine. As a result, their work at home is to lie down, watch TV and eat.

It's amazing, especially this Riverwood video!!

...but I think evolution will change the vector of gaming like photography changed the world of arts.
the success of such games as Borderlands shows that in games it’s not the craving for hyperrealism that is more important, but ... something else

Unreal Engine 5 will be an absolute game changer. It's putting all that power in the hands of anyone skilled enough to use it. I can't wait to see what some if these indie developers come up with, and of course the main stream big developers.

I'm currently finishing up my Bachelors degree in Computer Science and have always kinda thought about becoming a game developer. The one thing that has held me back from that path is I've heard if your not on one of the big teams you usually get overworked and treated like shit.

In the end a game with incredible graphics that isn't fun still sucks, of course. BUT when games like Elden Ring or the next Elder Scrolls or whatever games come iut that are fun, have good game play, ever-inproving physics, a solid story, AND fucking photorealistic, beautiful graphics will be thay much better because the graphics and physics are so incredible.

I have modded Skyrim and Fallout and other games to improve the graphics and I really enjoy the improved graphics a lot.. it just modernized the game and honestly in games like that where atmospheric immersion is such a big thing it really adds to the experience. Imagine climbing to the top of a mountain in Skyrim and looking out and having it look like a photo. It just feels different and honestly adds to the experience a lot. So I am definitely excited for photorealostic games that will come onnthe near future!

Yeah I would definitely expect to put in long hours especially at the beginning of your career or near deadlines/releases (and possibly right after releases too for patching)...but that can just be IT in general, to be honest.

I think I'm one of the few that draws a pretty hard line at 45-50 hours a week max (and that's rare, usually I really work 40-42) and if that means shit doesn't get done until next week, then that's what it is.

Thankfully I work at a place that respects work life balance and I have an unlimited PTO policy so I can take as much time off as I want so long as I am doing a good job, and the managers I have had don't want us working tons of hours. They want us ready to work, feeling charged up, and realize that time off is the key to creating that attitude!

Nothing kills morale like having a workforce full of people working 60 hours a week, hating their job and winding up with issues in their personal lives because they are overworked. This is such a massive issue in western culture. And the fact that some think you are lazy if you don't want to work 60-80 hour weeks is just absolutely retarded. Meanwhile they are going through a divorce and miserable lol. I have historically gotten more work done in a flat 40 hours than my coworkers who worked 60 hours, because they were scatterbrained and unbalanced and stressed out, whereas I was focused and rested and charged up. Unless you're a business owner or in sales then putting in hours like that just doesn't make sense.

Game design is awesome, I think everyone pulls long hours though especially when deadlines are coming to a close. Regardless, I would say give it a try and if you don't like it then look to transition to another job within IT. There's TON of varying jobs you can do. It's not like you'd be stuck in game design forever.

So my plan currently is to start off in software development. I may later on decide to move into the gaming side of things once I have some actual experience under my belt not 100% sure yet. Right now my experience is limited to college and things I have taught myself over the years.

That sounds like a good plan to me!

I don't like to self advertise (this is my first and probably last time even mentioning it) but if any juicy bros want to stop by my Elden Ring stream, I would appreciate it a great deal. Doing a viewer builds thing right now where you spend points to change my build. Usually average about 50 viewers and 5 or so chatters. Will send the link via DM here.

Also because I'm doing a tren cycle in a few weeks and it would be cool if someone let me know if I've suddenly turned into a psychopath.

The main thing, man, do not forget about reality and life is beautiful not only in the game, but also outside it :)

Yes, now the graphics are growing and realism, but the scripts are getting worse and worse, just like in the movies.
The script crisis is what has kept me from going to the movies for 5 years.
The writers are trying to please the existing lines of propaganda and write complete crap.

Here is a spoiler for all the filmed and not filmed films of marvel\dС and so on: a bunch of good guys (among which there will be all races, sexes and genders, and sexual orientations) in pajamas, kick the ass of a bad hero who actually might not be so bad, like this is the world being so bad made him bad, but he's going to get his ass kicked for being bad.
sorry for the spoiler.... who cares?

Yes, there are games where it's not about the script at all, but about the gameplay... like DOOM for example. Music and carnage on the screen immerses in the process completly.

But because of purulent scenarios, such a genre as a quest, for example, died completely. There was an attempts to play with Lovecraftian worlds, but I didn't like it, don't even remember the name.

Yes, I haven't been to the cinema for a very long time. Because of the bad scenarios.
