Anabolic Steroids are Supposedly a Gateway to Cocaine Abuse in Teens

Teens will do just about anything for the most part. I remember when I was 16-18 I almost did every drug possible besides anything with needles. Stopped when I was about 20 and it was pretty much green until I was about 26 when I started my first cycle

If anything, once they clean up their acts and get off the junk, they trade one addiction for the other and wind up becoming gym/gear junkies, NOT the other way around. These idiots who come up with their stories are so delusional, I thought I was tuning in to CNN.

Lots of (brave) stories in Meso and other boards about former junkies who cleaned up by lifting (and juicing).

The way the general public views steroids:

Thanks for nothin mainstream media

Performance-enhancing drugs may increase risk of teen cocaine abuse, impair fertility: Exposure to anabolic steroids increased psychoactive effects of cocaine in rat study

"Athletes sometimes use anabolic steroids to boost performance. In addition to building muscle, performance-enhancing drugs have been found to affect mood and behavior, including risk-taking behavior. Previous research has shown that approximately one-third of young adults who use anabolic steroids also use cocaine. This rate is substantially higher than the roughly 5 percent of young adults who use cocaine but do not take anabolic steroids. Although there appears to be a link between anabolic steroid use and the tendency to use other addiction-forming drugs in adults, it has not been well-studied in adolescents."

Let's face it. Kids are stupid. Not really their fault that they lack life experience, to a degree. They shouldn't be taking steroids in the first place, obviously.

But i could see their point of view, kind of. Some of the younger crowd (god, i sound old) may feel that they've broken a moral code with steroid use, so what's another broken moral code with coke or any other hard drug? In their minds, "it ain't no thing".

i'm tired and rambling, but it really wouldn't suprise me if there is some off chance link between the two and adolescents.

We all made stupid choices when we were younger, despite someone older who had been there and done that telling us not to, in many cases.

[GMAFB] [Rats] Nandrolone Use During Adolescence Increases Cocaine Sensitization and Impairs Reproductive Function
https://www.fasebj.org/doi/10.1096/fasebj.2019.33.1_supplement.738.5

Anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) are known to affect mood and motivational behaviors. One of the AAS most commonly used by young adults is nandrolone. In 2017, prevalence of cocaine use in this population was approximately 33% compared to 4.9% in the rest of this population.

Cocaine and AAS increase risk taking behaviors. However, the link between the use of AAS during adolescence and propensity to use other drugs of abuse has not been clearly established.

In this study, adolescent female rats were administered nandrolone decanoate (20mg/kg/sc) or vehicle for 10 successive days starting on day 28, the rats were then divided into 4 groups;
Oil-Saline,
ND-Saline,
Oil-cocaine and
ND-cocaine.

Beginning on day 40, they were tested for locomotor sensitization to cocaine. From days 1–5 and at days 13 and 23 rats received an injection of cocaine (15 mg/kg/ip). Their locomotor response to cocaine was measured at days 1, 5, 13 and 23.

Our data show that nandrolone enhances cocaine sensitization in female rats. In ovarian tissue, it reduced weight and induced cysts formation.

These data show that exposure to supra-physiological levels of androgens during adolescence modifies the brain circuitry that regulates addictive behaviors increasing the psychoactive properties of cocaine. AAS also have detrimental effects on the female reproductive system and on fertility.

Is there really a significant amount of highschoolers using steroids?

I went to gifted schools (accelerated academically, not retarded) so we didn't have sports. Most athletic teens I've known would not use AAS.

I reckon there's probably a coach somewhere helping these kids with the gear? I can't imagine many teens "figuring out" aas

It's easier for teens to buy point of methamphetamine or a few blasts of crack, or exctasy , a gram of good powder cocaine will run at least 80 to 100 bucks most dealers won't waste time selling small quantities less than a gram , the Vancouver area lower mainland in Canada is probably one of the biggest drug havens in north America , you get shot for selling junk, most of the trade control is asians, outlaw bikers and local gangs of all races mixed , heroin and fentanyl and pharmaceutical opiates are the real problem, people are killing themselves daily, not hard for a teenager to get a gun and into gang activity and the girls chase the money , other than that not much goings-on.
