Obama is increasing spending on the war on drugs so far.
Grits for Breakfast: Obama shouldn't waste stimulus money on Byrne grants (Even the Bush administration tried to eliminate this but Obama advocates $3 billion.)
Obama hasn't halted raids on medical marijuana dispensaries.
Debate rages over DEA raid of Westside medical marijuana dispensaries | L.A. Now | Los Angeles Times
Not a strong statement in favor of drug law reform from Obama.

I'm not a Reagan fan, AT ALL. I'm not sure that he started the war on drugs, but I do believe that he popularized the phrase,"war on drugs."
Gary Webb, a former writer in the bay area actually claimed that some of the people in the Reagan Administration were involved in drug trafficking. Oliver North, George HW Bush and the CIA were alleged to be involved. Too be fair, it is also alleged that Bill Clinton may have had some involvement in this as well.(I am a Clinton fan)
Lot's of interesting stories about the 80's. Google Gary Webb, Ricky Ross, Barry Seal and Oliver North and see what pops up.

What I meant was that if people are committing crimes against other people then they should be arrested for those crimes. I wouldn't classify the posession or personal usage of drugs of any kind to be crimes against other people.
As far as MADD goes. I think it's reasonable to be against Drunk Driving. By drunk driving, I don't mean .10 BAC. I could probably land an F-16 at .10 BAC. Most accidents occur at a much higher BAC than .10 . So if you're out driving at a .25 you're 3 to 5 times the legal limit(depending on your state), and you're probably pretty dangerous to yourself and to others. My opinion, .08 BAC is a joke. People eat and drive, put on make up and drive and talk on the cell phone and send text messages and drive. All more dangerous than a .08 BAC.

I'm not sure if either of those stories are going to tell us exactly what we want to know about the President's stance on drug policy.
At face value, extra funding for local law enforcement doesn't sound like a bad idea. Obviously, I'm against the war on drugs, so if Bryrne grants are tied directly to drug arrests then I'm against those as well.
Regarding the marajuana raids, I don't think the President was there for those raids. I would be surprised if he was even aware of them.

Their government is onerous; it is NOT free market capitalism but rather Corporate Protectionism & Crony Capitalism!
Moreover, they lead the world in incarcerated - You can judge a culture by their shear number of "laws"!
And finally, they are broke. Here are a couple stat's:
Unfunded SS & Medicare = $102 trillion
Plundered from other Federal Trusts = $53 to 67 trillion
Currently owed to private bankers by the Federal Government for current loans & tarp = $18 trillion
Future FED budget over next 8 years = $45 Trillion
Sum of outstanding fake counterfeit derivatives = $1.5 Quadrillion dollars
The US is 2nd only to Mexico in illiteracy & poverty among industrialized nations.
Now tell me, somebody, "Why would anyone want to actually stay in the USA"?!

I think this is a good idea the only problem I see is people worried about putting there name on petition but if somebody starts it I'll throw mine on there
I haven't read all of the three pages of replies to this topic but as much as we would all like to see steroids legalized it won't happen any time soon regardless of who the president is. Simply remember that Congress would have to pass a law to legalize steroids and unless their consitutants i.e. the voting public, is behind the idea it won't happen. For years they have been indoctinated into equating steroid with 'evil drugs' - as far as they're concerned we might as well try to convince them to make heroin legal. There would be so many organizations against the idea - doctors, teachers, athletic associations, etc that there wouldn't be enough general support. Trying to convince the general public of how truly harmless steroids, ephedra, and other supplements truly are when used correctly, rationally, and with proper safeguards would be harder than pulling teeth. People are simply too irrational to believe evidence presented to them that steroids aren't bad and can't be used without harm. The biggest hurdle would be getting pas the 'child protection barrier'. You all know about that barrier - "We have to protect our kids from the dangers of (insert whatever here)". Not to mention that the majority of the people currently using steroids and performance enhancing supplements are middle-aged men who only want to enhance their appearance and physiques. In any case I would support the movement but doubt it would get anywhere right now.
Legalize and tax. Goodbye drug war issues on the border. We will continue to consume - that much is becoming quite clear. I used to be against this. I'm not a libertarian, but I think legalizing most drugs and taxing them would solve a number of issues. A solid and aggressive education campaign to accompany the legalization would be a must for me to support it.
