I know this isn't in the right forum but there has been no postings in the last 30 days in the power lifting forum, I would like to know from anyone hear how the formula works for a competition in a local gym would work not going by weight classess, we had one years ago in our gym and they used your weight divided by lift x something to get the winner instead of going by weight classes does any one know of the formula? thanks

Many moons ago in HS we did it with Total Lift Weight / Body Weight for a yearly fundraiser that had trophies. Obviously the goal was to raise money. People pledged per lb of your total etc. But it would keep everyone on a somewhat level playing field for the trophies. Favors guys who are in better shape of course.

That is still pretty much how they do it at smaller shows. Either one lift (specific lift/bodyweight) or overal (combo of squat+ dead+ bench / bodyweight)

so if you had 2 guys that there max bench was 365 1 weighed 180lb the other weighing 265 the winner should be the guy that weighed 180 not the bigger guy that weighed 265 ? but I remember some formula they used because they didn't want to have the different weight classes just not sure how it was done but think it was weight divided by lift and the higher # won does that sound right to anyone?

Back when I was doing it it was body weight vs weight lifted
example 455 bench divded by 198lb bodyweight = 2.297 your body weight lifted.

if you do weight divided by lift the lowest number would win. 200lb guy benching 100lb = 2, 100lb guy benching 200lb = .5. But yes your other example is correct. The guy that weighs 180 and is benching 365lb would win as opposed to the guy weighing 265.

In HS it was

(Bench + Squat + Deadlift) / (Bodyweight)

We also used to have trophies for highest lift both total and individual bench, squat and deadlift. Keep it simple and just divide lbs lifted by bodyweight. Highest number wins.

EXAMPLE
I weigh 232
I Squat 455
I Deadlift 505
I Bench 315
(455 + 505 + 315) = 1275 total weight
1275 / 232 = 5.49

Another guy weighs 185
Benches 265
Squats 380
Deadlifts 415
(265 + 380 + 415) = 1060
1060 / 185 = 5.7

He may be 50lb lighter than me and my lifts are higher but his strength to weight ratio is higher so he wins. Oh and if you couldn't tell I prefer the combined lifts to weed out the guys that never work legs or back.
