So I started to notice sleep apnea once i got over about 250. Had a sleep study and doc said its pretty severe AHI of 72. So I finally got my cpap yesterday and I picked the full mouth mask. Last night I had a bitch of a time falling asleep with that mask. Guys on cpap what mask did you pick? Im considering trying just the nose mask but idk if I breath with my mouth or not. Also what did you notice after starting the cpap?

I tried the full.face mask and hated it.

Went to a jaw strap to keep my mouth closed and the one that goes on the nose, massive improvement. Resmed Airfit N30i is the model

Siesta Full face mask - it takes time to get used to and the fitment / sizing is critical. If you have facial hair i recommend shaving it off. It should be snug but not tight. It took me a few weeks to get used to but now I can't sleep without it, and it's a total game changer in terms of cardiovascular health, recovery, energy, etc.

I never like the full face. I always kept one on hand, as when I had a cold or was otherwise stuffed up and couldn't breathe through my nose, I would suffer through with a the full mask.

But otherwise I used nasal pillows and a chin strap. More comfortable. I ended up trying about a dozen different masks and pillows over the years. It's going to be highly personal and individual - but I liked the ResMed AirFit P10.

A couple other things - I got a little metal hose holder that hooked under the bed mattress and held the hose up over me. That kept it from pulling on me when I rolled. They make several different styles, some look kind of like IV holders, some are hooks that stick to the wall or headboard.

They also have cloth hose covers - their selling point is to keep the warmed air warm - I didn't use it for that purpose though. What it did for me was help to insulate the airflow noise through the hose a bit. It's amazing sometimes how air flowing through a hose right next to you will keep you awake...

i got the nosepillows at first but i had a stuffy nose and one of my sides tend to be stuffed so i couldnt breath properly with it, since then ive used the full face mask and its been working well.

The biggest thing i notice is the energy in the morning, not feeling oxygen deprived and lack of headaches, better energy through the day. All the effects of improved and proper sleep.

how about your training? Ive noticed a huge drop in training capacity over the last few months since the apnea started. Im hoping I will be able to train hard again now.

How tf do u exhale?? I cant do a cpap unless i have a chance to breathe out… i literally alomst died and sounded like freaken darth vader using a nose pillow haha

There's a setting on the airsense called ERP. It significantly lowers the pressure when u exhale.

I got an older cpap… that pauses and allows me to exhale but the issue is it doesnt let me exhale the entire amount and thus forces air back in disrupting my breathing and this causing extreme anxiety…

my training has changed too so its hard to say if its had much of an impact on that. I sense that im recovering better though.

i just do it? ive never had an issue with that. Is something wrong with your setup?

Fellow cpap enjoyer. I love it, i have crazy dreams if I don't wear it. Nasal mask all the way. I was a mouth breather but with the cpap I just breathe through my nose. You can go into settings into any machine and adjust the pressure. Depending if its really high like 15+ maybe tone it down to 10 and get used to it and titrate up. Even working in the hospital I don't see many patients with full face masks unless they're morbidly obese and on a bi pap. I have a chin strap but never wear it, I have no problem breathing through my nose. I think the full face mask could be claustrophobic. I highly recommend AirFit™ N20 Nasal CPAP Mask. You can get them on Amazon much cheaper then on actual cpap sites (masks). Sleep apnea has alot of health risks, wear the cpap and get used to it. Your body will thank you

I use the resmed auto sense 11 with a F40 full face mask and a chin strap.

I'm not a bigger guy, well maybe fat lol

My advice is when you first start don't force yourself to use it, ease into it slowly so you get a good experience. I used to play with my phone wearing the mask until I forgot I was breathing or wearing a mask and go to sleep after that.

I'm convinced people gatekeep all the good shit lol like SSRIs, CPAP machines and steroids.

I love my CPAP machine. I even nap with it.

Some of the older machines weren't very good at letting one breathe out - and even the newer ones if they aren't set up right are difficult.

Photon is right - newer ResMed AirSense only way to go.
i see, i got mine adjusted by a professional and its a resmed airsense
