I don't think China would allow one sided arbitrary score keeping to have any power over how they operate.

If they aren't the one keeping score, then it doesn't exist to them.

That policy serves as domestic rhetoric at best. At worst, it burdened the public with the price tag to pay for Chinas non-compliance. We are the ones who are out of pocket. We are punishing ourselves. What leverage does that have over China?

I think the beginning attempts to clean up their playing field are solely in the interest of becoming the biggest player they can possibly be in the coming wave of massively successful obesity drugs.

China caters to huge companies and global market share.

They cater to money via access to US markets, upon which they're heavily reliant.

Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk may be global pharma giants, but in China, like every other foreign company, they grovel to be allowed to operate there. They bring the reputation and intellectual property, but China controls the gates, the pricing, and which competitors get a seat at the table. IP sharing partnerships are mandatory, and local rivals are fast-tracked to eat into their market. Being world-class globally only buys you a chance to play, and even then, China decides how much you get to eat. Once they've stolen all your secrets, you get to nibble on crumbs while domestic competitors take your place. .

Now imagine the country you just described giving a shit about the USA saying "we're going to count your packages" ..... That topic is not on the work day agenda in China.

China has billions and billions of dollars in global trade with them to protect.

in all seriousness, his paintings were lowkey bad, especially for the standards which were in place back then. his perspective was all over the place, and the harmony of the pictures wasnt impressive either.
I had a college lecture where someone brought this exact point up "but his paintings were good heheheheh" the professor had an art background, so
we had to do picture analysis comparing him (that painter from salzburg) to a viennese painter who started out around the same timeas him, and the differences in skill were clearly visible even to people who are not really educated in the realm of the arts.

I’m pretty sure he didn’t get accepted because his art lacked people. He was then advised to pursue architecture.
