There are 3-4 proton/tuta competitors but there is no perfect solution, including proton and tuta, obviously. Tbh, you (and in turn, we) might be better off scrapping them every few weeks and starting a fresh one anyway. An annoying solution, I know.

Finally caught up on all the pages I missed while I was away. The activity here is wild. Honestly, if you took out @readalot posts the thread would be about one-third the size. Next time I might just put him on ignore until I finish catching up, read everything else, then take him off again. Kind of like hitting mute on your favorite podcast host - you still like him, but sometimes you just need a breather.
