If you can keep tolerance down and avoid side-effects from high dose THC, weed can 100% help you in life, unless you happen to be one of the people that react bad. I've had weed anxiety before and if you are prone to it, it can seriously fuck you up long term.
I started smoking at 21 so only a few years ago, and while having the occasional week where I go ham it's really only been a positive change.
I've been suffering with insomnia since birth, I couldn't sleep the night I was born already yet I haven't skipped a full nights sleep with an evening spliff (yes, with tobacco unfortunately, balkan life) since the first one.
When bulking it helps with appetite, so I smoke a bit more (my usual dose it 0.15g flower...) and earlier then. When cutting it helps with just caring less about either just being hangry or the infamous "cutting" drugs, along with sleeping like a baby even on an empty stomach.
I've emberassed myself on this very forum while going through withdrawls though, too bad it's illegal here, can't really just rely on it as medication so the side-effects and/or really just the lack of effects get me sometimes.
It sends some people mad, sure, it can dampen your motivation to improve, but it can do the opposites of those aswell. It basically gives me a break from life for a couple of hours, let's me recharge and tackle the morning with a fresh mind and body. I just slept for 16 hours without even getting dehydrated beyond a glass of water in the morning just like a baby, which has never happened to me before weed.
Sorry bout the rant, just had a much needed tolerance break end last night, and feel like a bitch after ayahuasca a little.
