The irony of complaining about trade imbalances on a Chinese UGL thread never escapes me
. Anyway, antibiotic factories closing down in the us is not because of trade imbalance. It's because of Shareholder bank balance. Pharma companies aren't charity organizations. If not for government backing they won't even make vaccines. Generics are cheap as hell and there is little money to be made from them. Make tariffs 700% all you want, they will not invest in plants for local manufacture of generics. Instead they would wait for a crippling shortage and lobby government to allow them import for cheap and sell at shortage pricing to ease "pressure due to increase demand"
