Does anyone smoke or vape? Had success quitting?

You guys before I got into running and weight lifting I smoked two packs a day. I switched to a vape 2.5 years ago and I can breathe again, also has no impact on gym performance. I’ve been slowly tapering down and using the lowest dose zyn pouches.

Wondering if anyone else is struggling with this as well? I hate that I do it, it does nothing for me. I quit drinking and drugs but this is the last vice I HAVE to kick.

If you successfully quit, what was your approach? I want to set my quit date for May 1st and help/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

Smoked for 3 years non stop 15-20 cigs per day during my teens. Tried quitting few times during that time, lasted a month one time. One summer I worked at construction, I was tired of smoking and it was draining my pockets. One dude asked do I smoke and I said no and it was that moment I knew I either hold my word or fuck up and be a liar, so it happened I didn't smoke the whole summer.

Then later on I relapsed and smoked for half a year and then quit again, it was quite easy.

Later on I smoked few weeks on then off for half a year or so, until few years ago I decided to try cigs again after not smoking for a year. Shit made me so sick, my blood pressure was sky high and I had massive headache every time I smoked a cig.

I tried switching to vapes, but that crap made me sick AF. So I threw it in the drawer and it's still there.

It's been 3 years since I'm nicotine free and I don't miss it at all. Makes me sick to remember. My blood pressure goes up thinking about it. Besides cigarettes are disgusting.

Yea man the vape just made me more addicted because I could hit it anywhere anytime. Switching to zyn im still getting crazy withdrawals it’s been like 2 weeks and still. Its a pointless addiction im just having a hard time going cold turkey.

When I tried quitting first time and lasted a month it was bad experience, It felt like I lost some family member (namely cigs).

But that second time I was talking about during the summer it was quite easy, just maybe a week of sheer willpower and withdrawal.

Third time and on, man it's nothing. I even loved that feeling, it served as a motivation to lift more weights and eat more.

I think I’m going to just have to suffer through it. My biggest concern is my heart rate jumps up 15bpm for the whole day after my first hit

I tell you what. Go on a blast if you use steroids. That will make it easy, when you do a cycle you have different kind of motivation and cigs/vapes and all that crap don't belong here!

Put that extra energy in to good use and make some gains. Withdrawal will be nothing.

smoked for 15 years. vaped for 5 like the world was ending. like you said, too easy to vape anytime anywhere. nic was always high in my bloodstream

like you said, the addiction is real. part of the reason its so hard is because nic is a legal and its been part of society since forever. it's too easy to say that you'll quit tomorrow. there's always a reasonable excuse.

i used the birth of my daughter, the fact that I was spending $100/month that I could otherwise spend on gh, acute bp elevation from nic -- to be motivators (it was hard to see my 3 year old pretending to vape by copying me, and/or finding my vapes).

The biggest thing was making a commitment to myself, my wife, my family, and just nutt the fk up bro and get the job done. Yes it's hard, fkg deal with it.

Don't let nic own you if you don't want it to. All of it is your choice.

What strength of nicotine are you using? Nic salts or traditional base Nic?

I switched to vaping around 15 years ago maybe & predominantly use base. My experience with vaping (& that of pretty much every vaping ex-smoker I know) is that I don’t ever get cravings for nicotine like you do as a smoker, not with base anyway. I vape purely because I enjoy it & it doesn’t bother me if I can’t vape for a few hours at work - unlike when I smoked. I dropped nicotine for a few months - no cravings. Only went back to using 3mg/ml for DTL & 6mg/ml for MTL because it just doesn’t taste the same without nicotine - bland.

I use the 50mg nic salt, but I’m finally transitioning to 3mg zyn pouches. Still having pretty bad withdrawals after 2 weeks. The 50mg got me so bad I was just hitting it way too much until I literally got nothing out of it. That’s the main reason I’m trying to stop, I stopped getting even the slightest buzz just doing it to make the Cravings go away really.

I do get a slight buzz from the zyn first one of the day. It’s definitely pleasant.

I started smoking cigarettes at 14 at 24 I switched to vaping I’m 29 now trying to taper down to almost nothing. It’s harder than I expected.

Chantix has helped a lot of people I know. Everyone says that it makes you look at cigs and the appeal is just gone.

Sounds very similar to how GLPs make you look at food and simply don’t crave it.

Of course you don’t wanna take it forever so once you get through the initial withdrawals it will take willpower to keep off. The only bad side effects I hear about are intense dreams and nightmares. But insurance would much rather pay for your chantix than chemo

I used vaping to quit smoking, took me 5 months to quit smoking and another 1.5years to fully stop vaping.

Don’t get discouraged if you fail your first try to stop vaping, try again utilizing other methods of quitting. At first I lowered my nicotine mgs on my juices, then went to 0 nic, then reduced amount of juice I use. Finally I left my mod at home when I went out of the country, I didn’t have a choice but quit, it wasn’t much of a struggle since I already weaned myself out of nicotine.

Good luck brother.

The reason I say no to alcohol, rec drugs, nicotine is because I allow myself to choose only one bad thing and I choose Testosterone.

I can't have all that toxic stuff, so I chose the one that gives me the most benefits and least negative effect on my health.

I learned to control my addiction and desires. I can't have it all anyway. Cars, drugs, sluts, money, steroids, power, fame. You can't have it all, so choose priorities. I'd love to have it all, but I would destroy myself. It's all about keeping a balance in life for me.

The nicotine gum worked for me, and wore the patch same time.

I picked up social smoking after basic training and transitioned to a vape from there like 10 years ago. Vaped for maybe 5-6 years. i was going through like 5ml of 6mg juice a day.

quit cold turkey, sucked for like 3-4 days and then was over

So then it’s not too late. Thanks for the response. I’m going to finish this tin of zyn as slow as possible and stop from there. Knowing how short of a time to get out of this helps a lot. Appreciate it.

ymmv, I know other folks that have a much harder time. but the physical dependency to nicotine is only a couple days to kick.

I did it just by leaving the vape at home when i went on vacation.

dont try to ween yourself down, youll just end up talking yourself "one more tin", "ill quit next week" ect ect.
just make the decision, toss the shit, and be done with it.

I posted a similar thread to this. I use nicotine lozenges now days. They’ll help you get off the vapes but tapering down and actually quitting nicotine comes down to if you actually are willing to quit and put your body through that. I have been addicted to nicotine for 11 years and this is the first time in my life that I feel like I’m actually on the road to quit. It’s all about will power.

I used to dip, never vaped or smoked ever. Not even once. Dipping all my friends did, coworkers, etc.

I used a brief hospital visit as my excuse to quit. For some reason it's easier to quit when you physically cannot leave lol

I was a heavy smoker for a couple decades and this is how I quit. Sides were bad but quitting was easy. You could blow smoke in my face and I didn't want it.

50mg? Fuck me, that’s ridiculously high & far in excess of what any smoker trying to quit needs. No wonder you’re struggling!

As a comparison, before the EU outlawed anything over 20mg, the highest Nic in a pre-made eliquid you could get in the UK was 36mg & I’ve never know anyone who ever tried it. Next down was 24mg, & shops only recommend that for 40+ a day smokers trying to quit, but usually only after they’d tried 18mg first. Eg as a 15-20 a day smoker, I started out in 18mg.

I know 50mg ish isn’t unusual in the US, but IMO that’s specifically & intentionally intended to create a strong nicotine addiction, not as a stop cessation aid. No wonder so many Yanks find quitting vaping hard!

Anyway, personally I’d recommend switching to 18mg base Nic vapes & steadily cutting it down to 0mg over time. I all but guarantee it’ll be an easy, stress free way of quitting.

Avoid Nic salts though - they give you a much faster & harder hit of Nic relative to the dose, which created cravings. Base Nic gives a slower release & taper in the bloodstream, so whilst you don’t feel a Nic rush, your body doesn’t crave like it does with salts.

Best of luck either way mate.

Just remember, it’s all in the mind. You have to REALLY want to quit to succeed. Sort your mindset & honestly, it’s easy.
