I know we're supposed to be welcoming and encouraging to newbies, but I despise the New Year's resolution hordes.

Most of them will never stick with it; their one success in 10 days of attendance is getting in the way.

ugh yes - I dread January when everything gets crowded for a few weeks. If they were going to stick with it, I'd be more welcoming ... but few seem to make it through February. At least most of them just clog up the cardio rooms and the circuit machines. For the most part, "the resolutioners" don't really go for the free weights.

Years ago when I was a distance runner, prior to switching focus to weights (a broken hip makes one reevaluate priorities), I belonged to a gym solely for access to a treadmill on crappy weather days.

Every January meant planning treadmill time at really bizarre hours because of the crowds of resolutioners taking over. What really used to irk me was that all they ever did was walk - fine, everyone has to start somewhere. But they took up all of the newer, better treadmills, leaving the crappy ones with the unforgiving concrete decks for the runners.
 
What is your biggest pet peeve while training in a public gym?
Mine is the person who insists on walking around the entire gym or paces aggressively in-between sets.
I'm in my own world and keep to myself while training, this person is not physically affecting me and it shouldn't bother me but dam, it irritates the hell out of me !
one time at the gym I was in between sets of squat, and right before I went to get under the bar what I presume to be some cocky "instagram model" and her scrawny ass boyfriend walk up to my platform stand in front of my weight and start taking pictures in the mirror. I just asked them to get the fuck out of the way but looking back on the encounter I feel I should have done more.
 
Most gyms are garbage with people curling in the (very few) squat racks or blocking something just texting.

Then I've found a good gym and during covid we (the members) couldn't train but most of us continued paying. Once they reopened I brought my wife for a one time training and since she didn't sign up she had to pay a fee. I quit shortly after, I didn't even want to argue.

My garage gym is heaven and keeps growing.

With respect, you only joined this site 3-4 months ago and you're now talking like a long standing member with loads of knowledge to share. Does the length of time being registered on here indicate experience? I'm a newbie on Meso but I've been bodybuilding/lifting/using gear for over 30 years so how does time spent on this forum have any relevance? Treat people as your equals/friends and don't be an a-hole...

I think he was indicating you should treat noobs on meso and noobs at the gym both respectfully.

I don't feel I was being hostile either. Personally attacking your ex husband in two separate posts on a bodybuilding forum is a bit immature. Maybe my response wasn't the best, that I do admit. So I apologize for that.
 
I meant gym newbies, not Meso newbies; obviously I am very much in the latter category, but am a 25+ year gym veteran. "We" in my NY resolution post refers to gym regulars, not people here.

Relatively new (2+ years) to gear and currently not running anything but T. Joined here because I got some lousy guidance previously and didn't properly vet that advice. No permanent damage, fortunately, but I'm taking a more measured and informed approach from here on out.

2. Males with stupid looking clown hair that needs to be cut, I wanna grab them by the throats and hold them down as I take buzzers to their heads!

3. Ppl who wear crocks/slides! This footwear just says “I’m a lazy fuck” and these ppl need to be shot dead!

4. Mr “special exercise guy”, you know the type of fuck with a shitass physique that always has to do some off the wall exercise that he claims is superior? Yea that guy!

5. Ppl obsessed with hippie hip air fuckers, especially MEN that try to isolate their glutes like motherfucking women! Btw, 90% of dudes throwing a barbell on their nuts and dry humping the air with it have a physique that resembles a busted can of fucking biscuits. These ppl need to be shot

6. The person that feels the need to constantly remind the gym they’re all natural. You don’t need to tell us that, we can tell by looking at you!

7. “Mr. Injury”!!!! The guy who only wants to talk abt injuries and what he can’t do anymore, fuck off and go eat a pistol already!!!!

8. Fat women that have been in the gym for 3 days that feel the need to wear crop tops/2 piece gym outfits like they actually belong in a category of women that have put in work and we would actually fuck!! Go put an appropriate outfit on you fat fucking bitch! You need to be shot!

9. Mr/mrs. dancy dance! This is the gym, not a dance floor, and you all dance like idiots anyways, and you look in the mirror as you dance which looks even more narcissistic and retarded!! You need to be shot!

10. Mr cooly g rapper guy! Look motherfucker, nobody gives a shit abt how hard you can walk the gym floor and rap, your physique sucks and I’d grab you by the throat and pop your head off like a dead dandelion, you retarded, attention craving, ghetto wanna be, paper tiger fucking son of a bitch!!! These ppl need to be shot!!!!!

Been in this game for 4 decades. 15 years ago I found myself pissed at literally everything people did in the gym: curl in the squat rack; mope around in a dark hoodie; flip through their phones on the bench; super set bench and flys while hogging both benches; doing lunges by the db racks; ....it just didn't end. All assholes I thought. Then I realized..fuck...I'm the asshole. Can't reform an asshole so I got plates & DBs off of ebay and splurged on a damned good rack; rouge bench; and ohio bar and just went solo in my garage. Funny thing: I still get pissed at people in my own gym.

I have to agree with this
At my gym it goes strong for about two months after New Years. Very large Golds Gym and they promote the hell out of new year new you lol
I’m at the gym almost every day around the same time and I appreciate all the polite, respectful, courteous other regulars.
While I respect the new people that want to make a change and do better….and the fact that they are actually making an effort….I don’t appreciate the attitude that seems to be very common among New Year’s resolutioners. I notice a large majority of them act like they are better than everyone because they went to the gym 4 times. They are not courteous. They act like they own the gym. They don’t have the respect for others to rack weights, to wipe off equipment after use and they take out dumbbells, mats, etc and just leave them wherever and walk away.
I think a lot of new gym goers can have bad traits because they are in a new to them environment and part is they don’t know better, part is they might be nervous and part is they are very bad at noticing patterns lol.
The rest just have bad attitudes and don’t stick with anything so we only have to deal with them for a few weeks.
The ones that stay consistent I like to be friendly and accepting so they feel comfortable and I notice that I think they appreciate that and they watch me racking my weights, picking up loose weights on the floor, wiping down my equipment and they start copying. This is the start of a new gym rat.
Part of it is on us as regulars to make new people feel accepted. We all started at the same place.
But New Year’s resolution people piss me off. Especially when I’m on Tren lol
