Balancing Longevity with Bodybuilding and AAS

I've become interested in current research on longevity, which led me to the works of experts like Dr. Peter Attia and Dr. David Sinclair.

Currently, I'm reading David Sinclair's book, "Outlive."

It seems to me that some of the things we do as bodybuilders/AAS users contradict the guidance provided by these experts. This isn't a revelation.

I've taken a few key takeaways from the research. I'm supplementing NMN and Resveratrol, taking my cardio and lipid management seriously, and intend on adding a day of fasting, probably once per month. As for my use of AAS, I'm sticking to the minimum effective dose of the safer compounds, even though tren calls to me. Just one cycle... just one...

I'd like to strike a balance between my AAS use and the pursuit of longevity. If I can stay muscular for as long as possible while living a long and healthy life, then I'd call that a victory.

Anyone else?

My rules for safe-ish PEDs usage and weightlifting

1) Stick to the lower effective dosage, pending bloodwork
2) Watch BP and lipids. 2 major CVD causes and kidney killer
3) No major and abrupt weight fluctuation if you don't compete. Caridiovascular health takes major hit when gaining weight in a short period of time. Slow and stedy either direction
4) No insulin, DNP. Don't compete don't need that shit.
5) Enjoy the journey, don't get fixated on PRs, weight and body fat percentages.
6) If all things go to shit, dump the PEDs. Life is too short to cut it shorter.

It seems high HGH levels lead to shorter life from what Sinclair has been saying. Anything over high normal levels of T are likely to lower expectancy i would think. Or at the least there is no good data showing it is benifiail. It seems the less times one activates their mTOR pathway the better according to Sinclair. So the less muscle one has the better for life expectancy. But just looking around i do not see where those that are bigger whether it is fat, muscle of height live longer. Bigger is a down side for longer life. Elevated BP and glucose seem to be a driving factors for shorter life. so frequent eating with carbs may not be in one's best interest. I got interested in health and longevity before i started using PEDS. I assume all the things i have done to get bigger and stronger especially with PEDs will shorten my life. I just try to guess how much as see if it is worth it. Getting compliments from people has never been enough of a draw for me to shorten my life. Pushing myself to accomplish something can be i just have to decide at what price.

I'm at that point in life too. I got heavy into longevity and the advice I took was not the best. I took up long distance running, went vegan, and didn't care about protein. So now I'm older, skinny fat, and weak. I'm almost 50 so I'm going lower doses to get my muscle back. And I gave up vegan after a 1.5 years because I didn't feel healthy even though I ate clean af.

I run 250 mg test/week and maybe 150 deca 2-3 months out of the year. I run Primo maybe 4-5 months and about 140 mg/week. 3 iu's of GH 4-5 days a week.

I eat a fanatically PERFECT diet. 200 grams of protein on days I train, half that on days off. I cheat maybe once every 6 weeks. I get tons of labs and they are perfect (last cholesterol was 130). I do 27-28 minutes of cardio religiously 5 days a week. I train extremely hard 3 on one off (higher reps) and only take a couple of weeks off per year. My body fat is 10% year around.

I keep my weight low, about 210 lbs. My body was designed to be 170 so I have to take blood pressure meds. I also take seizure meds, as I had a big one a year ago that was caused by medication I no longer take.

I competed and abused gear 5 years ago, almost getting a pro card, but I have retired.

I am nearly 62.

Let’s see this 62 yr old 10% 210lb physique

1. Let (clean) food and training do the work
2. Go slow and steady with dosage increases, weight gain, etc
3. Take your time off
4. Make cardio a staple
5. Find a doctor that is willing to work with you on maintaining your health thru gear use
6. Favor lower doses of more drugs vs large doses of 1-2

No. 5 is the hardest achieve. Unless you have family or friends, they will treat you like a leper, it's sad really.

There are some. Dr Larry Lipschultz is getting older but is well recognized in this field. He is in Houston. He has a lot of post docs come through who might help.

Great physique, probably better than 90% in this forum including me, that's for sure.

Thank you. I of course was on more than HRT there...however I have been able to retain a surprising level of fitness on much lower dosages. I am still fanatical about diet and training. One of the hardest....and most important things I do is to force myself to take a day off.

I split my body over 4 workouts and train 3 on 1 off. I do 27 minutes of cardio a day. Off day is completely off, no cardio. Also, getting 8 hours of sleep a night is critical.

Thanks my friend. Just stay fanatical and disciplined about diet and training, it has to become a way of life....I actually have more recent pics, but not sure how to crop out my face (us old guys are low tech, I am trying to find the like button for your comment, LOL). Even on low dosages, with all due modesty, I look good.

I only cheat about every 6 weeks, although my diet is nearly 30% fat. I keep carbs around 300 a day, less if I don't train.

One huge thing is recovery. 8 hours sleep every night and taking days off when needed.
