Who here Benches with an Arch & Leg drive?

Lol Its funny when you hear that some people have never heard of them, I always assume everyone who lifts weights and runs gear deadlifts too.

I deadlift but i did not know i should buy deadlifting specific attire in order to deadlift!! Evidently ive been over simplifying the process all these years. I just lift the fawkin weight off the ground. I thought thats all there was to it i swear.

But apparently i should first be sporting magical satin fairy slippers, chalking my hands with the crushed bones of unicorns, a WWE championship belt around my torso, a mint green deadlifting leotard outfit, and a padded helmet with flashing lights on it.

Only then should i proceed to lift the weight off the ground. Cant believe ive been doing it wrong all these years guys :(

I deadlift in bare feet so would never use them - but this is not allowed in competition. If you were to deadlift in trainers then you would be at a leverage disadvantage as you are raised higher off the floor than you need to be making the bar lower down your shin and harder to pull. In slippers its just a very thin sole meaning you are barely raised off the ground but still have a tonne of grip via your feet which is crucial in sumo.

I think and agree here that for ordinary deadlift you can pull barefoot, since there are no requirements for additional grip on the floor, but when sumo deadlift. it is very important to have hard shoes. which would keep its feet on the floor well. Then there will be the most rigid and safe movement.

Pf flyers or Nike Hyper Ko's are perfect for deadlifts. Sabo is good too.

I have a slight arch in my bench, but it’s more of a natural back arch just from tightening my lats down. My feet are flat on the floor, but like Koolio said, it’s hard for tall benchers to get in that position. As for leg drive, it’s the key to a big bench. Take a shit ton of practice though, one of the biggest changes to my leg drive was thinking about a leg extension. Instead of driving feet down into ground, I l think about trying to push the floor away from myself. This’ll help keep the ass on the bench too.

Deadlift slippers are a waste of money, at least the name brand ones like notorious lifts. Just go on Amazon and get the same shit for $25. I always lift in either vans or Jordan 1s. Not overly worried about the few extra mm, I’m a 6’4” conventional puller. A few mm isn’t going to break my deadlift lol

It helped me to add such a technique in the work of the legs to the press, it’s not just pushing them, but pushing in a wave, as if to the head, and my pelvis immediately stopped coming off the bench and the breakdown became more powerful.

It seems to me that your advice is only suitable for classical traction, where the load is strictly vertically distributed. But sumo traction, quality shoes are important here.

Shoes still matter for convential, can’t be pulling in busted ass Nikes from the early 2000s still need a solid bottom with good grip, but things like slippers don’t seem to make all that much of a difference. But ya if you pull sumo then the slippers become a little bit more of an advantage.

I have pulled sumo and conventional in Chucks and Notorious Lifters, and in my opinion I like slippers for both.

I never noticed too much of a difference between slippers and vans or Jordan’s. So I just stick with the normal shoes since that’s what I squat in too. Not to mention I can wear them outside of the gym lol. Just one less thing I have to buy for this expensive ass hobby. I also don’t want to have to bring three pairs of shoes to a meet

Yeah, I got Reebok Heeled shoes I use for squats and bench, then Notorious Lifters for DL. Still got the Chucks just dont use them anymore.

Expensive is an understatement lol

Rather, not an advantage, but safety during training, as you can get injured.

In a slipper, the ankle is stable, it seems to me that it should not feel very stable during a breakdown, there is also a load in the horizontal plane for a break, so to speak.
