Thats going to be a tough one. At least it reported like that as opposed to you passing out anemic on the bathroom floor and taking a ride in an ambulance. What do you think caused it? Are you taking any NSAIDS?? Or other drugs hard on the GI tract...? Cialis?? etc...

I was just chiming in because I friend of mine went thru that a few years ago. They had to scope him to find it. Finding it is just the start of the figh, those don't want to fix easily on their own.. I can't recall his medical regimen but I think they were recommending some yogurt which I encouraged. He resisted that one for a while thinking whatever med they put him on would just knock it out.. Just FYI of all the yogurts he tried the green one (Activia) was the only one that really worked he said. Took him about a year to clear it and heal it up completely.. But yea the hot wings, Thai curries, and beer may be off the menu for a while.

When I saw your post, I just remembered being surprised what a bitch it was for my buddy to get it corrected it was a serious matter for a good while for him... I seem to recall it taking him a while just to get his dietary chemistry in a state for the healing to even begin..

Good luck with that and play that one by the books... I'd also consider getting rid of all that stress I know you manage with some xanax or Klonopin. The good news there is they are writing those pretty readily these days due to Covid. At least I dont think benzos are hard on the gut. But I sure know stress is..

Damn man I really hope you recover well.

If I were in your situation, I would be trying whatever I could. It might be worth looking for gut-stable BPC-157 oral supplements. The peptide is actually created naturally in the human gut. There have been many good anecdotal reports of oral BPC healing gut issues. I would also just sub-q a 100 mcg dose twice a day on top of that, just to be safe.

I would strongly recommend natural plain greek yogurt over something like activia, because activia is a sugar bomb. Activia is marketed in the US as this amazing probiotic--but really it is just regular yogurt. There's nothing actually special about it. Perhaps trying some kefir would be good to.

I think mindfulness meditation and relatively leisurely nature walks/easy hikes would also be incredible for you to destress and promote healing.

Have they prescribed proton pump inhibitors? I would be wary of long term use, they've been pretty well proven to have negative effects when used long term. However, short term just to cure your ulcer shouldn't have those negative effects. The problem with PPIs is that they really reduce digestion and thus impede the body's ability to absorb nutrients from our food. Also, you really should WEAN OFF of PPIs. Most doctors don't do this, and then the body overcompensates and you wind up with secondary hypergastrinaemia (too much gastric acid secretion, which then can cause ulcers, acid reflux, etc.). There's also been some investigation into issues with kidney damage and possible association to increased risk of dementia. Lastly, there's strong evidence that they increase risk of cardiovascular disease/heart failure. We are talking years, even decades of use though.

Not trying to scare you, but it's something you should talk to your doctor about and express that you don't want to be on them long term. I suspect if they can confirm the ulcer has fully healed via endoscopy, that you should be able to wean off of the PPIs.

Yea I forgot all about the 157. This friend of mine I referred to is simply not one to go to off-market supps, so it never crossed my mind but good point... I've heard that stuff will cure a whole bunch of gut conditions while you take it..

"Sugar bomb"... LOL Yea - Its pretty tasty... I will point out he tested about 4-5 yogurts ranging from fancy low cal greeks to the green one.. So who knows which one worked for sure. He does have as shitty a diet as I and his sweet tea habit would have covered the sugar long before the Activia. I will also point out that sugar would/might be a good thing if and once the correct bacterial populations are established. I did suspect that it just timed out well that the other yogurts were definitely in play by the time he started the activia... I just don't recall the precise cause for my bud's ulcer. Seems like it might have turned out to be stress related. I'll ask next time I chat with him.

All good info..

You know you got me thinking about Align probiotic caps as a bacteria source for repair. That one has always perplexed me - the cost. I read recently that this particular bacteria strain is one which when we are born that comprises about 90% of the bacteria in our newly birthed guts!? They seem to be pretty proud of their patent..

@bigrobbie is probably snorting Tony's with breakfast. So just saying its important to determine the cause...

I completely feel for you man.

I'm on script Protonics for life due to a perforated ulcer. I found myself suddenly being prepped for emergency surgery about 2.5 years ago and vomiting, shitting blood profusely. To say it sucked is an understatement.

Resulted in a blood clot and the surgery for that resulted in permanent right side foot-drop. No feeling from my knee to my heel. 52 days in the hospital.

And yes, my love of spicy food is now extremely limited as well. Hang in there, look into Protonics (I'm on 40mg Pantoprazole daily), keep fiber in your diet, try to limit alcohol use as it will definitely not help the issue. Red wine does me well if only on occasion. As mentioned, avoid NSAIDS at all costs.

Well wishes and good luck man!

Thanks Carlos for the replies and the concern and the condolences on my dead stomach

I forgot to reply my ulcer is two fold in the cause department:

#1: anxiety ( MAJOR FACTOR)
#2: Love of extremely spicy foods

No more snorting creole spice... promise!

PS: glad to see you post @BBC3 (. Miss your 2 page rants! LMAO )
Always good stuff!
