most worthless supplements

Sure some may take offense but here goes

1. Creatiine - You have access to AAS, GH, proper training and diet, this adds no benefit on top of this. if you recover and train hard, this little supplement that scientifically shows you will be .000 whatever percent stronger and it will take you .000 percent bigger does not ive real world results. Save your money. Not to mention it may be bad for kidneys we already stress other ways.

2. BCAA/EAA - No If you eat sufficient protein which you should be, these do not matter. Back in the day guys did not drink fancy pre-workout drinks. Your recovery is determined by genetics and your training programming not sipping on these around your workout or all day. Supplement companies love you if you use them and will keep showing studies as to why you should. They may benefit if you eat 1k calories per dy

3. Fish oil. Most of it is rancid, so if you use get the Carlsons. But unless you eat no fish or no fat (again dumb) you don't need these caps. Eat a balanced diet.

4. Beta Alanine- LOL if anyone uses this but for a while it was "the shit" among supplement heres.

5. Synthol- not a supplement and not many use or it would be number 1. LOL at synthol. Abused or used "properly", think about this for a second. Injecting oil to have fake muscle is idiotic and a mental disorder. No it does not stretch the fascia and make real muscle appear if you want to do this do Haney ramrods less stupid to stretch the fascia.

6. Digestive enzymes. You should eat food you digest. You can eat yogurt to help, you don't need pills to digest food. Adjust your diet. if you the dram queen who claims to not be able to digest food maybe you take too many medicines, don't know how to eat right, or most likely are a drama queen who claims their stomach for some reason doesn't work or you worry too much about how many times you shit and how your shit looks.
I think you're right on fish oil and that can extend to virtually every anti-inflammation thing on the market. And 99% of people claiming otherwise are still YOUNG so they could drink two gallons of gasoline and wake up with no wrinkles.

Also noteworthy for absolute uselessness: NMN & Resveratrol

Wait. Since when was creatine worthless? I don't have any side effects y'all are having.

I am on fish oil but I'm switching it over to chia seeds. I am trialing something out. My platelets are 680 and I think it's relating to my low omega 3 intake according to lab work. It's either I try this or go see a hematologist to diagnose me with essential thrombocythemia.

Glutamine, glucosamine+msm. Red light therapy, milk thistle, come to mind as worthless supplements.

I like pre-workout because it's an energy drink.

Don't you dare come at me with this #6. Digestive Enzymes fake news. All my gains have been from 65ml of Yakult right into the VG.

First time posting in a long time but I'm inspired.

Every one. Every single supplement is worthless unless you have a deficiency and are trying to fix it, or are looking for an enhancement to your bodily system and can measure improved results.

It doesn't matter what supplement you're talking about, if you can't prove you're deficient and need it, or prove it works on you effectively, then it's a waste of money.

I take a high quality fish oil because I've seen improvements to my lipid profile by adding them. I take a high quality magnesium because my diet is lacking and I was showing low on bloodwork. I've spent the last 15 years in the fitness industry so I definitely remember the days of spending hundreds on supplements to see incremental gains. Taking a hard look at how your body is working requires bloodwork, full stop.

Anything is a waste of money and time if you can't prove a need/usefulness

Bullshit. Creatine is not something many can get enough of for maximal ergogenic benefit to resistance training by eating meat. Most are also not capable of maximally deriving the benefits of fish oil from diet. So, bullshit. Creatine and Fish Oil are great supplements.

Thanks. I thought so too, but haven't looked up any research on it for years. I think the equivalency of 5g of creatine mono is eating around 2lbe of medium rare meat and hoping the creatine is still good.

Again it's been a while since I read anything up.

protein (vegan in my case)
collagen protein, greens blend
multivitamin
GOOD fish oil
d3 if you're deficient and b6 if it works for you.
zinc and biotin is good for hair skin and nails.
i take NAC too it makes me feel good.

just eat good foods, supplement what you need and maybe take a couple extra based on your lifestyle. basically, weightlifting aside, just buy supplements that will make you a healthier person.

along with digestive enzymes. 1000% change the game when I’m eating big.

I take them every day at dinner or a meal before bed it calms my stomach and reduces bloat significantly.

You guys need to look up some of the latest publications on betaine. PubMed has a bunch of recent stuff that looks real good. I was thinking it was just like a pre-biotic of sorts to help with digestion, but I have to wonder some of this data.. I'm using it now and it slammed some weight on me pretty fast... Like REAL FAST.. I opted for the HCL formulation which they recommend to swallow before you eat. I have a feeling that shit would rot yer teeth if not in a capsule... MY HYPOTHESIS so far is that the additional digestive factors just puts food in a more digestible condition to be uptaked. WHICH IS EVERYTHING... When you consider that elite BB's are so big that they have to supplement pretty much every critical organ in their bodies, then why would then not have to supplement stomach acid.Too >?!?!??? Many of these last few years of comeback I fear I have hindered my gains guzzling beers with food post workout. And not due to the alcohol or beer calories. But because all the liquid preventing my stomach acids from properly prepping the feed for intestinal uptake.. There may be something to betaine...

I sort of got this mentality in a supplement store that says ,”how many of these supplements were available in the golden era of bodybuilding?”

Then I ask myself ,”how many guys today look close to the golden era of bodybuilding?” Yea….exactly. You don’t really NEED supplements

What dosage of betaine HCL do you take?

I feel like my current MENT + HGH is giving me some indigestion. Food seems like it kinda sits in my stomach too long and I burp a lot. Plus my appetite has gone down a bit due to this, I can't eat every 3 hours like I would normally want to during a bulk. I was fine for a while, getting about 4k Cal in daily, then this just started within the last week or so.

I take digestive enzymes. I do absolutely notice a difference. Mainly reduced gas and better, more consistent poops. I realize a lot of people want to call bullshit but they really do seem to help quite a bit especially with larger or more dense, high protein meals.

Betaine HCL 648mg NOW Brand. It basically just says to take one BEFORE every meal is what I went by. I think I started getting some acid reflux from taking without enough food, too many times per day, or taking after eating if I forgot. I suggest a good starting point would be one capsule before your two biggest meals. Too many times per day or on too small meals may have actually started to result in acid reflux which I dont have issues with. I backed off for a minute after putting on 7 lbs overnight.

I continue to tinker with it because of its stated positive effects in fatty liver disease - which I may be dealing with.

There's tons of liver data out there growing on this stuff which I believe is also the anabolic mechanism via cholesterol and enzyme modulation and restoration related to supplementation of said.

I have Airway Reflux so it actually seems like this might be a fucking miracle supplement for me. I have had it forever, or at least since I was a teenager, and I think my mom does too. I have a chronic cough and nasal drip issue. I had heard of betaine before for nitric oxide, which there's a little research on. It seems like this use case regarding digestion would be more beneficial.

I saw in the comments for the product on Amazon someone said something about NOW using fungal derived pepsin vs porcine. I am trying to figure out if there is any actual difference or not. If anyone knows it'd be cool if you shared. Otherwise I'll share what I learn.

Hey man,

I wanted to tell you that you LITERALLY have changed my life for the better.

For fucking 15+ years I have struggled with chronic cough and post nasal drip. I went to multiple gastroenterologists, I went to an ENT and had the scope up the nose and down the throat and got to watch my vocal chords in slow motion. Nothing helped.

The GI doc did an endoscopy and says you must have GERD. He wanted to put me on fucking Omeprazole and even 15 years ago I said, "No thank you, SIR, I don't want those side effects." (Long-term PPI use was associated with twice the risk of total CVD and HF compared with nonusers. Our findings are in concordance with other research and suggest another reason to be cautious of PPI overuse and there's also conflicting evidence regarding neurological issues.)

The ENT did the scope and said everything looks totally fine, so we need to consider this may be partially habitual. Maybe a habit was formed after your tonsillectomy. In my mind I'm thinking...no way man this isn't mental, but I try to be open minded. It doesn't help at all.

Then random internet guy on a steroid forum "BBC3" says "I take Betaine HCl". One of the first Amazon reviews I see said that they have "Airway Reflux" and that this cured it. I google that and immediately see it matches my issues to a T. Fucking EXACTLY matches every symptom and feeling I get. After 15 goddamn years of coughing like an asshole after meals for a good 30 minutes, coughing while running, being exposed to cold air. All kinds of stuff triggered it. I ordered it and got the fastest shipping.

It got here and literally by the second day of using it I am not coughing. I eat a big meal (I used to cough even after small meals of just 500-600 calories) and I am not coughing. I went outside in the cold air and coughed maybe twice. I am no longer waking up in the middle of the night with a throat full of phlegm, desperate to clear my throat, hoping my coughing doesn't wake up the girlfriend. It was so embarrassing back when I was dating. Any time I ate, especially spicy or fatty foods, my throat would fill up with phlegm drip. I used to go to the bathroom to cough when I was on dates because obviously nobody wants to be hacking up a storm on a date like "this is normal, if you go out with me you'll get used to it..." If I ate a big meal it would feel like it was just sitting in my stomach for hours. I would burp constantly, which releases the stomach acid vapors into the throat and some gets into your airway which is highly sensitive. Then the cycle of coughing begins...

So thank you. Like fucking christ all the money I spent on GI docs and the fucking endoscopy and insurance companies should be clawed back and sent straight to you lol. I cannot fucking believe that doctors who are supposed to specialize in this shit don't even know Airway Reflux exists.

You made a massive positive impact in my life simply by sharing this supplement with me. You never know what is going to help someone else. The human body is so fucking weird and complex and fucked up, not to mention the mind is even weirder and more fucked up lol. I am still just in awe that this simple supplement has fixed this issue I've had for so long. I have to take 2 before each meal and that's it--no coughing at all. No acid reflux anymore either (I used to get acid reflux before bed sometimes, hasn't happened since I started taking this supp). It's incredible. You rock, man!

I'm glad to hear that. Let me know if it causes any weight gain. It happened fast for me but I can't be sure the Betaine was the primary cause of that.

Its interesting the stuff seems to have several potential uses. I'm particularly interested in the anabolic potential possibly derived from having food better digested as it moves through the gut. Perhaps due to the additional hydrochloric acid, or perhaps the betaine itself. Time will tell only.
You never know what the mechanism is with all the new unstudied compounds and what nots.

Just remember "everything works for a little while". Hopefully you can get some good mileage with no adverse effects. Also remember everything we add has OTHER EFFECTS (AKA "side effects"). So for best long term success you might try to dial it down as low as possible once you get straight and stable. Just to be on the safe side. :) As example, and I mean I honestly have no ideal how they can sit there and say that creatine is safe long term knowing how bad it rips my guts up. But I'm not gonna poop on the party I'm glad its working for ya. Unless I am taking creatine that is.. o_O o_O o_O ;)

Creatine is a supplement that if you're an athlete or bodybuilder and had just one OTC supplement to pick it would be creatine, or maybe whey protein if you're going to call that a supplement. It has gotten really cheap, and noticeably works.

That said, I don't actually take creatine because I don't like the bloat.

I think the rancid/oxidized fish oil problem has gotten a lot better since it's been exposed. And some brands are better than others. Try to buy directly from the manufacturer so it's fresher and not some Chinese knockoff. I get my DHA from Nordic Naturals which is highly refined, and also take some regular fish oil from Pure Alaska Omega which is USP certified and comes from wild salmon and believe it or not it's naturally pink colored.

Most worthless IMO would be CoQ10 and resveratrol. I'm not a fan of collagen or aloe vera either. I also had a bottle of bioperine that had to go in the trash. It upset my stomach.
