Favorite era of bodybuilding? How does it affect your training philosophy?

I'm a big fan of Golden Era bodybuilding. Arnold, Sergio Oliva, Zane, all those guys.

I just dig the classic look. Even with the undersized legs.

I find myself mostly sticking to the tools they had with anabolics, with some exceptions. I dont mess with HGH or insulin. (No offense to anyone who does. Just not my path)

Anyway, it definitely influences my training, supplementation, and general philosophy. Just wondering if anyone else does the same.

Mid-late 90s. Flex Wheeler, Kevin Levrone, early Ronnie. I always thought Flex had the best look ever. Stupid round muscle bellies, symmetry, and just a nice look.

I appreciate all eras though. It’s all hard work and determination at that level.

Sergio Oliva is my ideal physique.
Still have big oversized legs, solid conditioning.

I dont have the genetics to get there (Or the mentality, insane hardwork, time lol)

Can you please explain me what is the training philosophy of the golden era?

I'm sure there training philosophies were as individual as they were. Not that much different than today, I imagine.

The look was different tho. More emphasis on a V shape rather than an X shape of today's Mass monsters. The physiques were more upper body dominant. The conditioning was good on stage, but no one had shredded glutes for instance. Waistlines were smaller and tighter. Hitting a vacuum pose was common back then.

The only training philosophy I mentioned was my own, and that is just to try and recreate that look for myself. Emphasis on try.

Definitely the late 90s. Around 2003 is when I started to dislike where things were headed. Although, Priest was always one of my favorites

Current bodybuilding. I thought Rhoden looked great in 2018 (I think it was) Not as big as some of the others, good midsection, and an aesthetic physique. Was really happy he won the O that year.

I look up to the mass monsters, Yates, nasser, Coleman, ruhl, jp fux, mccarver, Wolf are some favorites to name a few

any one of their training vids I can throw up on the telle pre trainin and get goin

golden era lads just don’t give me any sort of desire to look like that

It influences a lot of my daily life, Zahsni motivation vids, 2005-2013 style bunker bodybuilding hardcore oversized shirt and ball cap style bodybuilding got me where I am now

i guess its all subjective but it seems like all the mass monsters look like shit with their 9 month pregnant bellies. Seems like aesthetics got thrown out the window a bit after the insulin era.

I like that look better than than the big legs.

Those west coast guys said that they would run on the beach after workouts.

I'm no expert, but from what I understand a lot of them ran heavy deca with no test.
