I know staying hydrated and eating foods that are easily digestable are key. I will have a cooler with powerade, Pedialyte fruits like watermelon and cantaloupe along with PB&J.

Have any of you every used oral rehydration salts? When I was going through the Special Forces pipeline they made sure we had these little packets on us.

I recall day zero week I was dehydrated, I popped a packet into my 1 quart canteen and within minutes my headache was gone and I was hydrated.

Never tried those things but if you're not using diuretics to make weight and you drink and eat sensibily, then I don't think they'll help all that much.

Edit* I base that comment on the fact that my fed has a 24hr weight in. If you have only a few hours then they might help.....or just hook up an IV lol

I use Thermotabs. When I run Tren I have to use them to keep cramping down. I usually put 3 tabs in my gallon of water for the day and take 1-2 tablets before training sessions. I've never had to cut weight for a meet yet. I know people who use these to help hydrate after weigh in and day of meet.

Definitely not trying to cut weight. I lost a few pounds while my kids were here. I was down to 210. Now I'm at 215. Competing in 220 weight class.

I'll be hooked up to an IV the night before. No joke.

Thermotabs. Sounds interesting. They are salt tablets. I need to read the ingredient label.

Electrolytes, potassium, sodium at least, are crucial. The day is often long and full of warm ups and attempts. I definitely recommend having some form of electrolyte supplementation.

Never used them. If you aren't cutting weight and have a 24 hour weigh in you won't need them. Gatorade and pedialyte will do the trick. I do always eat some Chex Mix or trail mix along with peanut butter and jelly during meet days to make sure I have plenty of salt in my system.

A mistake I see a lot of guys and especially woman make, even those who have competed often is they don't drink enough on meet day. Between water and preworkout and a soda for extra caffeine I generally drink at least two gallons of fluid on meet day.

Yes you will have to pee many times but that beats either cramping up or just being dehydrated enough that your strength suffers. You will sweat more during a meet day than you realize. My rule generally is to have a drink in my hand all day when I'm not actually stretching or lifting. Obviously that is a bit of a stretch but you get the idea.

Say for the squat. Will I need to warm up between each attempt? Small meet 50-60 people.

Nah.

What they do over here for larger comps is split people into flights, to compartmentalise the larger group of people into smaller groups usually by bodyweight. So you might have women and men upto 75kg lifting first, then heavier men after.

So as a result, you won't have to wait too long between attempts. Perhaps long wait between each event, but not each attempt.

Warm up normally before your first squat attempt, warm up normally before your first bench attempt and keep your deadlift warm-up brief since you're already mostly warmed up and you'll be tired by then. Besides that it's best to conserve energy besides just occasionally moving around a little to keep from getting too cooled down.
