Hey I eat raw eggs all the time. I recently restarted my second cycle of test prop. I eat them raw because I had read somewhere that they lose their bioavailability when cooked.

My question is that are eggs a bad source of cholesterol on steroids? I keep reading conflicting opinions on the cholesterol in eggs and if it's good for you or not.

I enjoy it. 4 eggs and some oats. Make up most of my meals.

The danger from eggs is not the internal contents but rather the presence of things like e. coli on the shell surface transferring during the cracking process.

Cooking helps alleviate this risk somewhat by raising the temperate of the whole mass to the point where any transferred e. coli dies.

So the answer is that risk is dependent on the cleanliness of the outside of the eggs to a large degree.

From what i've read, dietary cholesterol, such as that found in eggs, hasn't been shown to raise serum cholesterol levels.

Of course, i'm just parroting what i've read and it would be worth it to put in a little Google leg work on this subject.

At one point, i was downing a dozen raws a day. The amount of saturated fat is what put an end to it for me though.
Even if my diet was absolutely pristine (it wasn't) outside of the eggs, the amount of saturated fat was still far beyond what i was comfortable with, so i dropped raw eggs from the routine.

I've always thought they become more bioavalible when cooked and if you eat them raw it's best to get pasterurized eggs.

Yeah according to the 98' study from the American society for nutritional services , raw eggs have about 51% bioavailability and cooked eggs about 90% ... I know that's an older study but it about the only one out there if you go looking ... but , im pretty sure that just pertains to raw eggs cracked straight from the shell , im think the cartons of pasteurized liquid egg whites have a similar bioavailability to fully cooked eggs ?

There is a slight risk of contamination from the shell but it is very low. The eggs you get from the grocery are washed to help prevent this. When you prepare a cooked egg sunny side up the top pretty much remains raw.
As far as cholesterol in my experience dietary cholesterol does not raise serum cholesterol. I have labs that proved it in my case.
Don't want to get into whether saturated fats are good or bad. The sugar industry was instrumental in demonizing saturated fats and it worked. Think of the low fat craze if you are old enough. All the low fat foods just had more sugar and were worse for you. Still goes on today. Personally I know I can eat 6 eggs a day without negatively affecting LDL/HDL.
Perhaps a cooked egg has greater bio-availability than raw but it is just too quick and easy to throw a raw egg into a protein shake for a fast meal when needed. I like getting some real food in with the processed protein.
