Diet ideas

Trying something a little different with my diet this time. Since october i was bulking at 3300 calories and put on 11lbs with alot of fat (which sucked but i needed to get my weight up) now I got a little spooked for the summer when i looked back at my pictures before october. I gain all of my weight in my midsection so hello muffin top lol
Now I am trying to cut some fat off, curious to hear some opinions though. I dropped my calories down to 2200 for 3 days and was losing weight quickly. I got nervous and today i bumped it back up to 2350 I would hate to lose the little bit of muscle I put on these last couple of months.
So my question is what do you guys think about dieting down to 2200 calories for 3 days of the week and back up to 2900 maintenace level for the rest of the week? I would probably lose 1 lb a week doing that. Or maybe just suck it up for 3 weeks at 2200 calories and lose 6-8lbs hopefully mostly fat? Macros at 2350 are 44p/33c/23f
My bulk was 3300 33p/45c/22f
If someone has a better idea I am open to suggetions

I think many people struggle with this @Bordo
I for one get super excited about bulking and 2 months in I am like, what the fuck did I do to my body. I hate looking in the mirror and seeing a flabby mid-section. But at the same time I know I need the calories to pack on muscle.
Maybe it would help to set a clear and defined goal.
If you know you are bulking just realize that you are going to put on some BF and that is okay.
If you cant stand the idea of gaining some fat it is going to be a bit harder and take more time to lean gain, in my opinion. I know this was not much help!
Either way, good luck brother! I

most of what you lost in those 3 days was probably just water - 3 days is way too early to get worried.

How much do you weigh? I can't imagine bulking with only 3300 calories...
i was 167 then went up to 183 obviously alot of fat l, now i am down to 178 i will probably go down to 173 and then go back up in calories. 3300 was alot for me

Thanks for the reply man, yeah thats pretty much what happened. I put on a lot of weight and didnt really look in the mirror much because i was trying to gain weight. At this point i am cutting down for the summer and i think i will go on a lean bulk from there so I dont put on that much fat again.

Try cycling your carbs, a lot of it is when you put food in your body. Up your carbs on heavy days( I.e. Legs, back) you have about 2 hrs post workout where your protein synthesis is higher and simple carbs will replace glycogen and not be stored as fat(within reason approx 90 grams).
Cut out carbs about5 hrs before sleep. Hit up some egg white and broccoli before bed and some micellular casin protein.

My buddy that wrestles at our local university says there not allowed carbs after 3pm lessining the chance of carbs being stored as fat , sounds simple but it takes discipline

Always have meals prepped and ready. Or protien shakes like isopure

1) Carbs are almost never stored as fat.

2) all carbs will replace glycogen

3) there's no physiological need to cut carbs 5hrs before bed.

Carbs cause insulin to be released are is that wrong , once insulin is in the blood stream fat burning halts are is that wrong , I'm not trying to argue I'm asking cause this is what I learned on keto

Yes carbs cause insulin to be released but so does protein.

Insulin inhibits lipolysis but cannot prevent it as evidenced by the fact that people can lose fat regardless of carb intake. It's the calorie deficit that matters.

K thanks brother, carbs aren't the devil I think people overreact with the keto craze and low carb diets

Correct. Some people who have insulin sensitivity issues will do better lowering or dropping carbs and doin keto. Most will be able to perform better by intelligently utilizing carbs and fats together.

The 3pm rule is probably just their way of having a simple rule which will ultimately reduce daily carb/calorie intake.

This is a evil issue many face.

They bulk up and put fat on, then they don't like the fat, so they cut all these calories, and go into a major deficit then lose muscle, so they bulk back up gaining more fat, so they cut again and they never really see progress just keep bouncing back and forth.

You need to find out your true bmr, then cut a few hundred calories out, and I recommend upping the protein. As protein can turn to glycogen if the body needs it, it just prefers not to do because it takes more energy and would rather use a faster source such as carbs to do this.

If you gained fat at 3300 calories of at least 11lbs, then your bmr or maintenance calories are probably not at 2900 and probably more realistically around 2500 so you basically added in 800 calories to your diet above what you truly need.

Either that or your nutritional intake was just super poor. Either way a re-evaluation of your nutrition should take place.

And speaking of which what does your daily food nutrition intake look like?

You're right that durin cutting it's a good idea to slightly up your protein intake but I think you used the wrong word here.

Protein can turn Into glucose not glycogen. The metabolic pathway might exist for protein to eventually turn to glycogen but it's never going to happen in realistic circumstances. Protein turning to glucose does happen in the real world.

Thanks for correction. I did use the wrong term was late and tired. Good catch my man.
