Midnight snacks, worth it or not?

So a young buddy of mine (19, 5' 7", 215 lbs natty) is on his way to being a good body builder. And one thing is forsure this guy can fuckin eat.
Anyways when he is bulking he sets 2 alarms in the middle of the night to wake up and eat his meal preps.
Does anyone else do this with success?
Pros? Cons?
Me being a poor eater myself it sounds like a good idea, but to interupt your slept cycle to force feed extra calories might be hurting his gains.
Any thoughts?
 
IT can be good for bulking however some mitigating factors. Body type is important like being an ectomorph as myself. I could eat everything and anything and it was hard for me to gain weight. The problem with eating anything is just that some foods are just empty calories if you will. But yes it can help in gaining weight.

As far as sleep it can disrupt the REM sleep but many people can get by even with the interruptions. When I was younger I did well with 6 hours sleep. Also I am of the type that I can wake up eat, talk on the phone, bathroom and just go right back to sleep. This having a great importance to us all, still varies in it's harm from one person to another. A key sign of the harm of disruptive sleep is sleepiness itself as the waking day goes on.

I found it a good thing to have a premade milk shake , protein, eggs, milk and such. So I would set the alarm, wake up drink and go back to sleep.

A personal thing well worth personal investigation.
 
I did it on my last blast. I'd get up in the middle of the night and have several bowls of cereal and a big glass of milk on my gym days. I have a pretty high metabolism and I was aiming for 5500+ calories a day. After a full day of work and a couple hours in the gym I didn't have a ton of time left to eat and doing that definitely helped get the calories in.
 
I don't intentionally do this, but every since my first tren run over a year ago, my body wakes me up 2x in the middle of the night and I'm starving... I also keep it simple... pbj.. milk... sometimes a leftover slice of pizza... I wouldn't think this would be a good problem to have unless your bulking.
 
My 52 year old ass should easily handle this, as I used to be fat and eating was my thing. Midnight fridge raids are a no-brainer for me when bulking too haha

100000% yes....Steady flow of protein to feed them muscles makes for big gains especially if getting up to have a quick shake or some cottage cheese ....Worked wonders for me bro
 
Ya that would suck, fortunately I did it half asleep and and right back to bed ....

Do u wake up to piss in the middle of the night ? Just have a shake or bowl of cottage cheese ready in the fridge and kill it quick....trust me its worth it to give it a try....

I should be able to take a detour to the fridge after taking my piss to inhale some grub before going back to bed.
 
I've actually thought about having a homemade mass gainer type shake in the fridge over night for when I wake up to take a piss. Glad to see other people have tried similar things. Ha.
 
Not knocking the late night eats as I am guilty of eating before bed and even sometimes in the middle of the night... but.... in regard to growth hormone release.. doesn't eating interrupt your natural gh pulse if you eat before bed..?
 
Good thread, I actually thought about doing this then I realized..I barely get up when an alarm goes off for WORK no way I would to eat.
